Mini-14 is literally the 5.56 SKS. The bullet drop for it is extremely bugged since all bullets just laser-beam to the target.
Thompson is pretty nice if you do find it early game. I guess i've got really lucky with it too, since i found it + a suppressor 3 times in a row

It's intended, it's literally wrote on patch notes.

They did say low bullet drop, but i didn't expect it to be this low.

I've had one shot go roughly 700m with nearly no drop.

From what i've seen on the test server, buildings are being bruteforce loaded when you're on spawn island.
