water is probably the most newbie friendly element given how many options for healing/damage cuts/clears it has. Early on surviving triggers/ougis is a lot more useful than doing a little extra damage

You need them for the 4*, you should do the lvl 60 NM though.

You should only be farming materials to buy them from the story, then 4* them with a Steel Brick. 4* them with actual event materials is a huge grind for a payoff that isn't worth it.

Use casino brick on the sr, the two ssr are core until you can 4* a xeno
