I don't post here often at all, and I started posting on /agdg/ too yesterday because of the nature of my game. Reposting since last thread died and I was next to last.

Gonna copy past my explanation and post some progress:


It's a RPG where you're a Housebreaker. A sort of mix between GTA, Pokemon, and Final Fantasy.
The ultimate goal of the game is to collect all the items, about 1000, the engine would allow me to push to 2000.

You do that by entering various homes in an open city. There's a story segment, mini-games, quests, and a Heist endgame system where you get paired with random pre-existing heisters. In this endgame, the Banks are successive fights ala roguelite, because the events of the heist will be random, and you got to survive them to clear it.

The webm is showing 2 main things:

- The looting of "Big Objects", where you call a receiver that will virtualy come and take the items in his vehicle (e.g truck). He'll start on a pizza scooter I think lol.
- My archetype of the looting function. When you clear a furniture (by fighting it), you can scavenge it, the size and interior will depend on what furniture and wich room you are.

The game will not be hardcore. But I plan on random events to happen in houses, like people sleeping, dogs alerting neighboors, alarms, violent residents...
The game should let you feel free, a bit anxious at times, but happy.

Please bear with the clashing art, some things are there but it's not harmonious. Sorry for long post.

I'm looking for an old RPG Maker game. I forgot its name, but it was kinda unique. It was hard, you had to heavily exploit buffs, debuffs and damage over time, especially on bosses. The game was made in VX if I remember correctly, using default assets.

It was played over several days in some dark town where everyone were killed by a mysterious corrupt force. You had to look for clues and survivors who became your party members. The starting protagonists were some generic duo - a guy and a girl. One of the party members was an old man with some constant PTSD flashbacks. He was also a chef and he had an ability called 'Shish Kabob'.

On the final day the town's underground started turning into fleshy, veiny mess and you gained access to the portal and fighted The Ancient One. The music in the final battle was this:

Start working on some part of your game that you haven't touched yet, even if you only write it in a document. Start filling out that database.

I'm going to speculate how to fix a problem I'm faced. Help if you can.
I want to try to make a basic type of shooter minigame with Yanfly's Button Command Events plugin to trigger a common event to trigger a common event that shoots an event across the screen that if it touches another event, that event disappears.
So I'll have a parallel event to check if the event passes over another (only one bullet at a time). It'll also somehow reset the event after hitting the end of the map but I'm not sure how.
The main problem is Common Event -> Moving Map Event
I could possibly use the CE to turn on a switch that makes the parallel bullet event move forward.
Other things to think about:

The eyebags are somewhat intentional, at least. I want the protagonist to look sleep-deprived, haggard, and tired.

Ok, my main problem is now resetting the bullet event.
I have the first page of the event is bank so the player wont see the bullet unless the hit the button.
The button calls up a common event turning on a switch.
The switch activated the second page in the event where the bullet checks the actor's XY, moves it to that position, and goes right
A parallel event checks the bullet's XY, and if the X hits the end of the map or higher , it turns off the bullet's switch, otherwise it loops
But, turning of the switch does not reset the event.

How do I reset the bullet event after the X hits the map end?

I've learned that this
Script: $game_self_switches[[8, 15, 'A']] = falseErase Event
Is a way to reset self switches but the bullet event is not run through self switch, it's a full time switch.
Will seek further.

I attempted to use the Call Event script in the game but it didn't have directions to call events from other maps, so I got Yanfly's event call plugin to call the bullet from another map, so theoretically I can continue to call this event to the map after it disappears, but now I need to make the event disappear.

Next I set up the bullet to only go 17 movements to the right and to erase itself it the X is 17 or higher.
I thought it didn't work but then realized I put it on a page that did not exist anymore.
Next, it sent the actor forward instead of the event called. Because when I adjusted the bullet movement it changed from this event to player.
It didn't work because then my parallel event checker that was to check the variables of the bullet event since it wasn't an event on the page.
So I moved the bullet event to the main map to see if it'd work.
....
It didn't.

I simplified the event to just be dialogue and a sprite only on a certain page, but only dialogue works.
I'm so confused.

So, who is the intended audience for your game?

People who won't immediately turn their nose up at a game made in RPG Maker. It's a very niche audience, I know.

Quick, think of the funniest / most dickish way to kill a character in your game.

Rocks fall on them on the way to the last boss. The party just shrugs it off, and the story moves on without them.

I'm still in the "planning" stage (emphasis on the quotes), so nothing is set in stone yet. Right now I'm just trying to figure out what to make, and muster the motivation to make it.

For fetishes, it's actually more about what I wouldn't include than what I would. My game will probably have a female protagonist, and most lewd games with female protagonists seem to focus on rape, which isn't my thing. I'd rather come up with a story that gives the protagonist an interest and reasons to get in lots of lewd situations, and support that with gameplay that rewards the player for seeking out those situations. My biggest fetish is good game design, so I'll be trying to do a good job with it.

Maybe the main character will be a succubus that gains experience from sex instead of combat. There might be elements of corruption, but it would be encouraged in the game rather than something to be avoided. I'm not sure what else yet so if you have any requests, feel free to toss them my way.

"How lewd" is a good question. I'm bad at art and probably couldn't afford to commission an artist, so there's not much I could do visually beyond maybe some sprites. I can write just fine, but I'm not sure text-focused lewdness would work in an RPG Maker game... or I could leave it at the "lewd but not quite explicit level", but I don't know if that would be popular. Though, I did say I was making it for myself.

Have an NPC stand atop a castle wall. If you talk to him from behind(it's known that he hates being surprised), he'll fall off the wall and die.

If you do this during an invasion event, he'll happen to fall on an enemy seargent and kill him too, removing a midboss encounter.

The big bad has the ability to curse everyone and one guy gets a curse on him that will kill him if he joins an active group/party and he's adamant on letting you know that even though he's coming with you, You can't make him an active member. There's a point at the end of the game where you choose 2 different party setups to fight the final boss and only at this point in the game can you move him to one of the 2 groups. As soon as you move him into the group you get a scene of him dying dramatically.

If only you had remembered the seemingly invisible character that followed you earlier in the game. After beating the boss you return to town with bad news but find that the guy's sister also died, She had a curse tied to her brother where if someone were to unfortunately forget about her brothers curse and get him killed, She would also die.

Best diary

Core gamers and casuals who want a comfy game with some throwbacks, but new and fresh experience.

How detailed is your worldbuilding?

What do you guys think about items with no direct indications on what they do?

I got those meds, but it requires the player to go to the inventory at least once to learn the effect.

Is it too heavy and boring for you?

I'm always a fan of having to learn what items do through using them, so I like the idea.

I'd say it depends on how it's handled.

I enjoy figuring out how a game works rather than having all the details handed to me, but if the effects are too hidden, it could get frustrating. Hints from descriptions and NPCs are good, as are visible effects of some kind, even if exactly what they mean isn't clear.

I like it, seems suited for a survival game of some kind.
If you have these as items available in battle then you should clearly say what they do after the player has learned the effects.

Nowhere near detailed enough to answer those questions, I'll be honest. I have a bad habit of assuming generic settings and making things up as I go along.

I love it when writers put real thought into their worlds, though. I should try a little harder next time I start a serious project.

I want to include some casino-style mini games in my game, but it is too easy to just bet all your gold and reload the save file until you win.

Anyone have advice on how to mitigate that?

Auto save after each shot is the EZ way.

Auto save after buying chips.

Control the player's ability to save-scum by restricting where they can save, and make it a pain in the ass to travel between the save spot and the casino. It's not 100% deterrent, but it weeds out the laziest of players. Also consider giving out consolation prizes, like potions and such at roughly the same price as their bet so they don't feel like it was a total waste.

This looks fun, worldbuilding is always fun, but how can it change the story is the best way to showcase it.
