The monster is boring as fuck which is a shame because both the concept and visual design could have made a really cool one. The armour is just them shooting themselves in the foot just like with transmog. They took the worst game in the series and removed any reason to grind the endgame by making one monster: >easy as fuck >fast if you know what you're doing (a single pierce HBG can tear through it in a few minutes, a few make it sorta feel like watching a troupe rehearse an hourlong play in ten minutes shit happens so fast) >give the best charms in the game and be the only source of them (apparently there's a DLC quest that gives them now too, so at least there's that) >give the best general-purpose armour in the game, which can be tailoured to literally any set of skills you want >give some of the best (when not outright the best) raw weapons in the game >be the best source of money in the game with the most valuable common parts Basically almost every public hall was grinding mantis when I played because there's no reason to hunt anything else besides progression and checkmarks, the latter of which like 1% of players give a fuck about.The game isn't really fun enough to justify hunting for the sake of hunting, so at least for me once I got all the mantis shit I had a profound sense of "well now what?" that I never felt with past entries, even when I had every set I ever wanted, or in the case of 4U every craftable armour piece because I decided to be a true completion autist.

Different wystones do different things. The force wystone increases your damage against frenzied and apex monsters. The drive wystone prevents your attacks from being deflected by apex monsters. The element wystone lets you apply status and element damage from your weapon on apex monsters (who are naturally immune to it).
Is there a theme that captures the essence of a monster better than Amatsu's theme? This combined with the spooky howling it does, it's perfect.

Every weapon is craftable but since mantis armour is so charm-oriented charms are much more important. Of course, you grind mantis (or subquest out of an event brachy) for charms so it all comes full circle.

This. Know your songs, fight the monster in such a way that you play those songs. It's not as hard as it sounds, and it's optimal since strikes that hit an enemy produce more potent notes that those that don't.

Depends on the hunt, sometimes it's useful to play songs before everyone enters the area but most of time you should be playing songs mid-fight, especially in Gen/XX with the double notes.

I've been playing Monster Hunter since the original on PS2 and I thought Apex was kind of a shitty mechanic unless you were using Greatsword. The idea of a monster entering a powered up state and that you have to knock it out of it is cool. The idea of most of your attacks bouncing is not. Same reason people hated Fatalis in 1

And then he steals from you! In G rank he doesn't poison you, he gives you Toxic. If you break his face he doesn't flash anymore, he spreads toxin instead that pushes you far away. He's just so annoying. But goofy as hell. He's the first monster that I can remember that not only made me angry, but had me laughing out loud how he runs.

I challenged this deviant for the first time expecting something as easy as Arzuros and it absolutely fucked my shit up. All my weapons bounce off him, and each swipe takes 1/4 of my hp bar. Am I supposed to come back with late game gear? Or is there a trick or critical weakness that I overlooked?

Deviants are largely optional, the few low rank versions there are a considerable jump up in difficulty for where they're at. You can certainly take them on with rank-appropriate equipment but unless you have fun fighting it there isn't much tangible benefit though, due to how their equipment progression works.
