That's an interesting question. As a kid she'd certainly be told about them and what one looks like. But that doesn't really give the whole picture.
Perhaps her parents took her to a petting zoo as a child? She'd probably have a good idea of what these animals are if she got the opportunity to feel one. I think petting zoos only have small/young animals but she could just extrapolate based on what a calf is like.

Do you think Lilly remembers that though? She's touched a lot of things since she was a child, when is the last time our lady has touched a thick leathery hide?
