the only way i can play HIP CK2 is if I play as the game's supervisor, watching as an observer and intervening anywhere I feel needs to go in a certain direction.

For example, I wanted a game where the Viking age has way more invasions, but also want a Zoroastian resurgence, so I keep switching between Persian and Norse characters to make sure both sides of the map go where I want it to go. The British Isles, Northern France, the Lowlands and Northern Germany all go Norse due to Viking invasions and Norse Reform, while the Persian Empire is revived under the Karenid dynasty, while adopting Pahlavi culture and stamping out the Arabicized Farsi culture.

Knights in Magna Mundi get some pretty ridiculous bonuses based on being a Crusader State. Anyway if youre a non-monarchy its 50 years slog of becoming a cored blob before you start having vassals.

If youre Kingdom (like Cyprus) you do a cascade of PUs, Allies and Vassalisations starting with Italy and Pope then you eat your old allies etc. For instance Naples will happily occupy Italians for warscore.
