So what are the noob traps in CDDA? The main one for me so far is trying to use stair hopping.
Eli Rogers
Wonderful edition if I can say so myself
James Brooks
Caring about hunger and thirst beyond the visible penalties Ranged weapons Static bases Not understanding armor mechanics

Dominic Morgan
Oh no OP was too degenerate
William Barnes
Nevermind, false alarm
Luis Hernandez

Jordan Nelson

Gavin Bailey
Anyone have any runs to post?
Nolan Watson
I wonder if any of the mods post here
Jeremiah Fisher
to post runs i would first have to play a rogue like
Levi Peterson
Keep it in and just change your out of los colour to darkblue.
Brayden Smith
I've got some degenerate gameplay if you want managed to get into a cloning vat room and eat a bunch of limbs and got very fast healer on top of my fast healer trait that will help with the bionic that gives literally -50 health every day
This guy cleared until Zot 4 and also has an +4 executioners axe of holy wrath. I have never done extended before and don't know what is coming for me.
Where should he go next?
Jackson Cook
why? What would change then?
Zachary Hall
Zot 5 and get the orb.
Connor Ross
In dcss, should I stick to this +5 artifcat weapon that gives me resists, or try to get a +9 of the same weapon with some dmg brand?
Jaxon Morgan
weapon switching takes half a turn. That's faster than switching a ring. Switch it out for the resists if you need them.
Noah Morgan
+5 vs +9 doesnt matter too much good brand vs bad/no brand matters much more
Nolan Edwards
Weapons are for doing damage. You use the weapon which does more damage, unless i.e. the other has rf and is your only source of rf against a fire damage threat.
Ayden Russell
Honestly nobody really plays those tournaments anymore. People have been winning nethack and variants back to back for decades now. The goddamn game hasn't been significantly altered in around 20 years.
Ayden Fisher
Thanks for the tips.
John Harris
Wrong! Junethack was plenty active this year with over 100 people playing. The game was just updated for the first time last year and continues to be in development. 3.6.0 actually borked a few things from 3.4.3 but these have been addressed in the current 3.6.1dev but this version is not official yet. It can still be played at NAO and hardfought though. Many of the variants are being actively developed and expanded as well. t. will not admit his dying game is dead
Blake Hall
Looks like the No CBM painkillers mod doesn't work if you start with a class with CBMs installed right at the start. Search me.
Leo Adams
>Junethack was plenty active this year with over 100 people playing. Wow user, just wow 100 people you say That's astounding you're telling me that in one month 100 people played nethack and variants? Incredible. It must be the new roguelike reinassance.
Face it, *hacks are the deadest subgenre. Even *Bands have more people playing them.
Ryan Perez
more people than post in this thread, user it's just a small community gathering not an international event to stick on the calendar
Austin King
Yeah. And now the edges are already crumbling.
Connor Perry
Wrong again! Currently 8 people playing angband live 19 playing on NAO
Nope, our last thread reach the bump limit in under 3 days and that timeframe has been getting shorter and shorter for weeks. Average thread about 2 months ago was 4-5 days. Why must you lie to validate you own beliefs? I mean yah, it's not the most active genre but there's plenty of us who aren't going anywhere.
Christian Thompson
I knew taking three points of electronics at the start was a good idea.
Gavin Cruz
I'm talking about the tourney fucknuts
Lucas Sanchez
nao is a well-established popular server angband.live is pretty new and minor i'd posit that a much smaller fraction of *band players bother with online compared to *hack players (or crawl players but fuck those guys)
Christopher Gutierrez
Ah well I don't know much about angband tournies. Yah, kinda comparing apples and oranges. I'm just saying hack isn't as dead as some want to believe.
Ryan Bailey
does angband have "big" tournies? the only thing i knoow about is the competition on oook which is kind of an always-happening thing, just with a different game each month
Jaxson Price
>All these kids that don't realize this community was even smaller before the 'mainstream' found out about it, and it's just returning to the natural size
Michael Myers
>kids I doubt the average roguelike player is much younger than 25, with a lot of them being well over 30
Hudson Moore
I'm 19.
Kayden Davis
I know what I said.
Justin Harris
Also do noobs have a decent chances of getting anywhere in the ladder? Learning the games might be interesting, even if only for the tournaments
Joseph Ross
I'd love to see a timeline of your version of events.
William Ramirez
>do noobs have a decent chances of getting anywhere in the ladder? I don't know anything about Angband tournies and I still feel fully qualified to answer this with an emphatic "no".
Lucas Green
20 years old here I think many young people get into the genre by the recent use of roguelike as a buzzword. They played some roguelites falsely labeled roguelikes, triggered some older players with their stupidity but still ended up checking out the real classics.
Juan Wilson
I am in that range but I have to agree that /rlg/ is probably younger.
Gavin Flores
Worded that badly.
How strong is the competition? How good do you have to be to see at least little results?
Tyler Brown
You're certainly right that the majority of people likely discover roguelikes through contact with roguelites falsely labeled roguelikes, but this scenario you've concocted is ridiculous and surely people who've discovered roguelikes as you've described are a minority in the extreme. It's natural for people to be exposed to the concepts of procedural generation and permadeath through roguelites and inevitably end up stumbling onto and into roguelikes as a result; the existence of roguelikes isn't "hidden" and peripheral awareness of their existence is not uncommon.
Nicholas Lewis
angband.oook.cz/competition.php there are literally 12 dumps from 9 players on the current comp's ladder (it's a perma-aggravating balance drake of domination in pcb7)
Logan Lee
I think you mean "literally (competitively)".
Liam Green
I don't know anything about angband but I just started playing nethack this year. We had a clan that was competing for the first time against several clans that have been in the tournie for many years and we managed to come in first place. It was actually a very exciting month
Jose Ortiz
tfw almost 30
Joseph Garcia
omg we have celebrities here on /rlg/. How long did it take until people stopped recognizing you on the streets?
Carter Rivera
...
Isaiah Barnes
LOL I don't leave the house you tard
Zachary Gonzalez
Once someone asked me if I was the mumo guy and asked for my autograph I swear
Ayden King
training for the next tournament already?
Jonathan Lopez
The good news is that I successfully opened up the Electronics store.
The bad news is that the Sporting Goods store is now gone.
Ayden Robinson
Nah I don't play roguelikes anymore I just shitpost here.
Jason Sullivan
I would call fake and gay and but this is so specific and stupid that I'm really curios how such a situation can even emerge
Henry Gutierrez
ponyposter you are the worst mumo guy
Oliver Clark
win-win I say. Zombies in running shoes can be really nasty
Matthew Baker
meant as a reply too
Nathaniel Bailey
I don't get what the dif between multiple pools and single pool when theh both add up to the same number and both let me spend my points in anything
Kayden Allen
>both let me spend my points in anything wrong
both let you spend all your points on starting skills, which are semi-useless temporary buffs -- you can get the same results by raising your skills in-game after character creation singlepool lets you spend all your points on stats, which are OP, or traits, which are OK multipool limits that behavior so you can't just take 0 skills and 12 points of negative traits and then dump all the points in stats, which is actually the strongest (but also boringest) way to do character creation
Sebastian Ross
in multipool you can still downgrade stat points into trait points or trait points into skill points but doing so is stupid and dumb
Eli Cooper
>you can get the same results by raising your skills in-game after character creation
Grinding? I love grinding!
Andrew Jones
The only thing I willingly grind is hyper mare cheese
Jeremiah Allen
what are some roguelikes that are visually appealing
Jason Jackson
brogue for ascii, maybe forays the pretty graphical ones are usually the ones costing money, see tangledeep.
Gavin Cooper
oppai labyrinth is pretty appealing if you know what i mean
Ryder Morales
Unironically tangledeep
Ayden Hughes
Rice your terminal and play ascii
You will love it extra because you put in the work
Austin Brooks
>gaining xp is grinding Roguelikes should just start at max level with all the best equipment.
Xavier Butler
Forays into Norrendrin actually does this
Robert King
>Disassemble and reassemble cocksleeves >Until you rank it up >Watch your character read "How to Slurp Barbed Dick." >Until you rank up
Grinding! I love grinding?
Lucas Phillips
there's a 7drl like that but you're pretty old so the more you progress the more equipment and skills you lose from being a decaying old man
Logan Robinson
>equipment yes >level fuck no there's all that shit with shrines or orbs or whatever they are
Grayson Roberts
bump
Angel Morgan
DOOM roguelike is the best.
Jeremiah Phillips
Does /rlg/ Qud?
Liam Butler
too much blood, I get bad dreams of that
Logan Nelson
no, /rlg/ has patrician taste when Amerifats aren't awake see
Aiden Martinez
yes but like all nonfree games it inspires lots of shitposting as well
James Wilson
What time do you think it is in America exactly?
Michael White
time for a crabby patty
Matthew Cook
krabby*
Blake Davis
americans need to wake up every 3 hours and eat something to keep their blood sugar levels up
Gavin Ross
reminder that you're in a thread full of sucidal failures
Jaxon Rodriguez
Use a better style dude.
Hunter White
Awareness of futility of life is required to be truly human. Anyone who still clings to belief that life is a good thing is only a beast, no better than cattle.
Nolan Roberts
what about awareness of the futility of posting in roguelike threads
Mason Phillips
>restaurant kitchen is full of giant cockroaches Heh.
Jose Clark
