It´s not like he didn´t have magicians capable of casting the spell in quest or IX. Actually, I don´t think outside the realm of possibility that there´s exists a random mage whose work is to cast the spell in an important place like CITY.

Played through the first 5 rance games (01, 02, 03 for the first three), halfway through 6 now.
I saw without any intent to troll: I'm kinda becoming convinced that the Rance series just has plain bad gameplay, ranging from actively detracting from the experience (5D, kinda 01) to just being extremely simple and/or unfun (03, 6). The writing, music, world, etc is all on point and great. But the gameplay is so, so heavily flawed in each entry I find myself baffled by it. I'm almost feeling depressed because now I strongly suspect 8, 9, and maybe even 10 will have equally unfun gameplay. Is this all just in my head, guys? Is haniho come to those who love the Rance universe but aren't really that fond of the gameplay itself? Rance 6 aside from Sengoku is the biggest game in the west but its gameplay is just generic, easy RPG gameplay with SP/FP gimmicks slapped on top. Do people love it, or just tolerate it?

I like jrpgs so like VI and Quest. But its all a matter of taste. Sengoku and Kichikuou are the only ones where I would say that the gameplay is objectively a strength.

If the games were just the gameplay with some generic characters and story, then no, it wouldn't be good.
It's the combination of the story, Rance as protagonist, and the gameplay that creates a unique experience. It wouldn't be the same if one of those was left out.

I'm not pro or anti JRPG, I just think VI's gameplay is on the unfun side because it's so simple - 95% of battles are won by spamming basic attacks while Sil uses her all-heal spell. Actually, more like 99% if you include grinding for orbs battles.

While most of the gameplay is rather brain-dead, I do think that it's a nice change of pace from just reading. Besides, it gives some extra flavour to the game that wouldn't be there otherwise.

I feel like the gameplay could be improved a lot but I don't think that it really detracts too much outside of wasting time. It's nice that there's at least some variety in battle systems between games.

I´m ok with the gameplay of most Rance games but I wouldn´t really say that any of them is particularly good..

The gameplay tend to be ok/fun, but they don't compare with non eroge games with good gameplay of the same genres, which is understandable, eroge is a niche market, and while AS is a company that mostly make eroges with gameplay, it's still just one of the elements of each title, and their main ofucs tend to be a gameplay that fits the story of each game.

Not sure what you're talking about, you can play through IX without any grinding at all, you don't even have to do the side missions. And Quest while some grinding might be necessary it's definitely not anywhere near more time than doing the quests. Unless you're playing on jacked-up difficulties or something.

Well, you don't need to grind anything in worlds 1 before the final boss in magnum. I actually got throught the almost all the quest with kenshin+rance+torako+kachiko and crook, sometimes switching to Atago for skill recovery (Maris instead of torako for final boss). Generic fights are easily evaded with Crane. If you would like to play in higher worlds and use most of the characters, then you definitely need to grind a lot, but it's not the point of the game.

the stats overall seem to be imbalanced and somehow pointless. I didn't see the point to get yelllow stars for any character except for miracle, shizuka (since they ddon't have critical) and Russian. The stats except for atttack, speed and mag.res are joke.

Sengoku was everybody's first game, and funnily enough was an exception to the general Rance gameplay by being a Dai game disguised as a Rance game.

Alicesoft's best games in terms of gameplay are all conquest simulators. Even then, there are still annoying stuff about them like random ass character clears and random start-of-turn events

I would actually disagree here. Like half of my favorite games are eroge, just from counting the gameplay alone. There's something about how limited they are with their resources and what they can do that can make some excellent games.

I think Sengoku Rance, as a game on itself is actually really good. It's not too easy, pretty challenging, I like the visuals and the music, it's well balanced and the world map is well designed.
