Does anybody here actually use the claymore mine? I make my reapers basically stealthy snipers and don't bother with explosives. Am I being dumb?

Are you supposed to skip the first terror mission in OpenXCom? Because I need my whole squad hitting every shot to kill one Sectopod but there's like 10 in the map.
Joseph Johnson
>archon panics thanks to archonsuit >turns around and shoots a civilian All collaborators will get what they deserve.
Joseph Perez
Nah, it's beatable. But...
>Sectopods
You can't possibly be fighting Sectopods
Zachary Wilson
In your first terror mission. Sectopods are the Ethereal's terror unit, and Ethereals aren't going to be on your first terror mission.

I was actually talking about Reapers, sorry. But honestly, I'm not even sure they wrecked every civilian but by the second turn they were camping the Skyranger and no amount of rockets and explosives I had would deal with them, when I managed to kill one two more popped up, I had to evac with 3 soldiers left.
This game is overwhelming as fuck, Jesus.
Ayden Reed
Hi-Explosives. The game is different from others in that early game items are still effective until late game.
Robert Martin
What is your defanition of collaborator? Because not everyone in the cities is a collaborator
Joseph Green
Reapers are pushovers if you bring heavy canons with HE rounds. A single direct hit shot kills them. But your rockets should have killed them just fine if you hit anywhere close. Reapers are the biggest pushoever enemies in the game, so you are just in-experienced desu. Just make sure to load up on HE packs, rockets, and smoke grenades.

Having enjoyed playing Xcom EW with long war, i recently picked up Xcom 2 whilst it was on sale and am probably going to pick up War of the Chosen whilst im at it.
Whilst im pretty sure that long war isnt set up for War of the chosen yet, what mods are recommended for a xcom 2 ? (graphic changes etc), and if long war 2 is able to be used with war of the chosen, is it better to do a vanilla playthrough first?
TLDR What are good mods / tips for a playthrough? Also how challenging is the base game + new expansion?
Leo Watson
You remember how with EW you nearly played EU ever again. WotC is just like that.
William Cooper
By definition they are. None of them turn a blind eye on you, and all run bitching to their nearest ayy overlord in hopes of double advent burger rations the moment they spot you.
Daniel Kelly
good LORD look how fucking scrawny the Hunter looks. I understand the Assassin lacking musclemass, being a woman and all, but Him? Was he a Trap when he was a Reaper? He does wear fucking lipstick.

So you expect them to just casually chat with known terrorists, they don't get the luxory of real news, it's just a 24 hour propoganda feed
Bentley Reed
Just search for bug fixes (Brutal Fix, Lost World Fix, etc.) if you want a clean playthrough. LW2 isn't compatible with WotC, we're not sure if it ever will be, and it's also significantly more divisive than LW1. >Also how challenging is the base game + new expansion? Typically it follows the usual XCOM curve of difficult early game, not so bad midgame, easy late game, but it's possible to get some horrible missions or your first Chosen rolling some really good strengths that can keep you struggling well into the midgame. I'd just do a playthrough on whatever difficulty you feel appropriate, and afterwards analyze what stuff you thought was too easy and adjust it with Second Wave/mods.

what they want or expect from them is irrelevant. They willingly let ayys put a chip in them that makes them mobile security cameras regardless of their feelings toward XCOM.
At that point, even letting them close to a refuge would pose a danger to its inhabitants, hence the final solution.

Good shit, will definetly pick up war of the chosen then.
Gotcha, same difficulty curve as usual and grab bug fixes. That being said, I dont mind not going 100% vanilla first playthrough if theres some good gameplay mods that people agree are must haves, or add alot to the experience.
Samuel Morgan
WE BUILD FOR ADVENT
Dominic Price
Nah, WotC fills things out nicely so gameplay mods for the first playthrough are definitely not necessary. Just load up on all those nice cosmetics and hit the road. And don't ironmeme, still some bugs, game can still occasionally crash, seen quite a few people lose their saves.
Kayden Campbell
INFIDEL!
Daniel Cooper
The Chosen have 4 total stat tiers depending on their upgrades, right? So the assassin one when she has max strengths is [ChosenAssassinM4_Diff_3 X2CharacterTemplate] for example? I wanna mod them so they're not shit lategame.
William Flores
Gameplay mods no, but there's some nice interface/ergonomy mods, like "Addtional icons" for example. It doesn't change the balance in any way, but gives you some useful informations.

James Cooper
Am I a bad person if I reload a turn after I take an action and then immediately realize I could have made a more optimal play? Not even after the turn finishes, it'll be my first action and I'll be like "wait, that's dumb."
>tfw ADD brainlet
Brody White
Shen's is probably the best. Alien Hunters can spice things up Anarchy's children is very hit and miss, as well as just being cosmetics. I think picking them all up in a bundle is worth it. If you only buy one, get Shen's last gift.
Asher Wilson
>tfw I do it too I've tried to get into the habit of actively saying what I'm doing out loud, so I can catch myself with this shit.
Anthony Stewart
The main problem of Shen's DLC is actually Shen herself...Hate that bitch.
Xavier Parker
I'm still playing vanilla 2 because poorfag. How necessary are psi-ops as I approach late-game? I'm in June and Archons are just starting to show up, but I'm still not having too many problems since everyone has either Warden Armor or WAR suits, plasma rifles or mag-special weapons (was researching Beam Cannons when I left off)
Julian Phillips
>How necessary are psi-ops as I approach late-game? They aren't necessary, they just are superior
Asher Martin
I mean, everybody plays differently, some people visualize things differently. Sometimes I gotta move my guy to a spot only to realize it's not a very good idea. Such is the life of a brainlet.
Leo Bailey
Depends on your difficulty, but having at least one Psy operative in your squad is never a bad idea. Especially if that soldier is well trained. The free action point, the anti-psy aura or the Void Rift are very useful/powerful abilities. Stasis is also great to let you catch your breathe if an ennemy (like a Sectopod) comes from nowhere in the middle of battle.
Psy operatives are great and always useful. Period.
Grayson Cox
I don't get the hate for Shen. Don't really like her but there's a lot of vitriol.
Cooper Adams
Guys, should I give my Icarus Armor to my Ranger or to my Sharpshooter? Jumping a Ranger with the Chosen's Katana in the middle of a pod and activating Bladestorm is hilarious, but I feel like a Sharpshooter with the Chosen's Rifle gets more mileage out of the Icarus Armor.
Also what ammo should I use on my guys? I have just a single set of Dragon Rounds, one set of Venom Rounds and a bunch of Bluescreen Rounds, should I bother with AP Rounds/Talon Rounds or just give all of my guys Dragon/Venom Rounds?
Angel Sanchez
Clearly it's purple
Gabriel Morgan
I think it's more of a "What we have vs. what we could of had" deal. But yeah, I'm mostly indifferent on the subject.
You should give them to your shooty grenadier >ammo Tracer for grenadiers if they need the aim. Status effect ammo (fire, poison, preferably fire) for marksmen or blue screen if they are your designated mech killer. Talon rounds for you rangers and reapers for big crits. Up to your for specialists.
Adam Peterson
Snek armor for Sharpshooters, Icarus for Rangers. It is law. Ammo depends on the class. Bluescreens are amazing for pistols, Talons for Rangers or anyone else with high crit, Dragons for Skirmishers.
Asher Campbell
I felt the Wraith suit was good enough for the sniper, also because I could already coupled with that rifle move and shoot and use the grappling too.
The Icarus was very useful for my ranger because of what you said, plus scouting, which I won't be doing with a sharpshooter.
Dominic Cox
Mkay, I'll probably work on that next and give 'em a shot. I just remember training psi-ops several times in EU/EW and them doing absolutely fuck-all in the field.
Anthony Anderson
Here is finally THE CAKE. A day late but I think it came out well.

>actually wrote my Vigilo Confetti dumb ass joke on it
I'm so proud right now.
Blake Foster
Don't laugh, user, but I don't have a shooty grenadier. My Grenadiers mostly use WAR/RAGE with Shredstorm Cannons, Frost Bombs and Plasma Grenades with Run and Gun. I used to run Snek Suit on my Sharpshooter, but I had a few missions with no good grappling options and my Sharpshooter was mostly useless. Admittedly, this was before I had the Hunter's Rifle.
Thanks for the suggestions on armors and ammo though, anons. It's a big help.
Brody Morales
the frosting was messed because I did not have icing sugar, I tried to make it but I did not blend enough, so it came out grainy.
Forgot to say thanks to the user who suggested to put Confetti, I wrote confetto because it ended with O and was thus more similar, and of course those are actually confetti there.
Justin Collins
>Don't laugh, user, but I don't have a shooty grenadier. But why not? Why have just AOE nukes when you can also have single-target nukes at the same time? >Salvo ayys, remove cover >Chain-shot the pod leader
Christian Reyes
That does sound pretty juicy. I kinda gave up on my Grenadiers ever hitting anything when I need them to and I figured slapping a scope on a minigun would get cancelled out by Chain Shot's aim penalty.
I'll give it a spin, thanks user.
Kevin Brown
literally /ourguy/
Angel Peterson
Those to whom I told the joke smiled and liked it all, thanks user. I would add a doubt about AP ammo, yes it ignores armor, but more than once to kill someone in a single turn I had to attack him with those who could shred the armor and then finish it with those who could not, with AP it would have not worked.
Jose Thomas
Yeah, I just stack aim on them. So tracer rounds+scope+perception pcs. (easliy 30+ aim in here) Chainshot has a three turn cool down vs. rapid fire's five turn cool down, and you get it way earlier in rank than rangers do + guaranteed armor shred. After that you can still take advantage of high ground and holo-targetting (which is +15 aim in XCOM2).
Joshua Baker
Why would XCOM distribute this poster? Wouldn't that do the opposite for morale?
Jaxson Stewart
...
Jace Roberts
Well, Resistance Havens could have recent defectors/refugees that could tip XCOM if they have seen that operative.
Do not lewd hunter bro. I'm gonna recruit him and we are going to go kill aliens together and break all the Elder's toys.
Brody Kelly
Show it to Jake
Logan James
What are you supposed to do in these "find the general" missions when they only give you five fucking turns?
I've activated every damn pod except his and the transport is only one turn away.
Lucas Diaz
You are supposed to sneak as close as possible before opening up. Not saying it's an easy mission, that's just the general idea.
Evan Stewart
he doesn't escape that turn
he still has to get to the evac point
Jack Campbell
Honestly I think sometimes you just get shit RNG on the map, pod composition, and spawn points for the field commander and evac points. It's especially annoying when things like that are your 2nd or 3rd mission and you have to restart the campaign, or if you end up stuck with a bad dark event because of it.
IMO, wotc feels very binary in being either broken and too easy or impossible and there's nothing else you could have done. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground.
