They were assimilated. The modern Western Slavs aren't literally 1:1 descended from Sarmatians, but Sarmatians did live among early Slavs and gradually assimilated with them.

The names of the Serbs and Croats are theorized to be of Iranic descent, meaning that they started out as Sarmatian tribes that gradually got more and more Slavic.

And there's quite many words of Iranic origin in Slavic languages, mostly related with religion (a few deities are 1:1 Iranian deities like Simargl':Simorgh), but also basic stuff. Off the top of my head, words like topor (ax), sobaka (dog), chata (house) are Iranic. That of course doesn't automatically mean mixing populations, since it's enough if the two had cultural contacts, like early Slavs living under Scythian or Sarmatian suzerainity.

The Alans/Ossetes are the only ones of direct descent. There have been Iasz people in Hungary who spoke an Iranic language until XIXth century. The Taifali in France were a separate people at least into Charlemagne times.
