He has..ironically enough become probably one of the most noble characters in all of sonic like... period. Its why up until recently where they all but confirmed some sort of mind control for forces folks were confused an upset about shadow's place in forces.

Rouge is a bit of a sociopathic asshole though, and I can see them frequently butting heads because rouge wants to do like... badguy shit and shadow's like " that's not good"

You could probably get an actual moment of rouge being emotional and a bit of jealousy out of rouge out of that dynamic too.

I know, that's why I would like them to actually do something interesting with the jewel thief thing.

I mean they probably aren't going to do anything with it, because sonic forces seems to remember she works for gun, and gun exists. But one of the more interesting things presented in the comics is that Gun doesn't like shadow. Shadow is very much a mercenary or something along with omega they hire to do shit and rouge is their retainer. And the idea of using that dynamic to cause tension between those two characters could legitimately be interesting. You can do a lot of things with that.

Rouge strikes me as more of a Carmen Sandiego thief, where she steals rare and exotic jewels for the challenge. She doesn't want shit to be just handed to her, she wants to either work her ass off to steal it herself or have it as payment for having worked her ass off, hence jewels as payment for working for the President.

The best thing the comics ever did was showcase Knuckle's doubt over his role as the Guardian.
It led to Rouge and Knuckles talking about his purpose in life, and Rouge's doubt over his happiness.
It led to Shadow and Snively bringing up the fact that the world has been put in danger due to lackluster protecting.
It led to Knuckles admitting all this to Amy in her car and Amy actually justifying his existence in this world.

It's a shame we're never going to get that level of writing for Knuckles again.

The description of shadow's mission seems to be " they are doing team dark stuff. Oh omega is gone we gotta find him" they go find him infnite is there, i'm assuming he does his obvious mind control corruption stuff. She runs away, she joins the resistance to help shadow and just that.

That arc made everyone look cool and learn a lesson.
Knuckles will never be that cool ever again.And I disagree with the conclusion that amy helped knuckles come to, but despite that it was told so well, it worked. Its something both characters would do and say and despite them being wrong in my opinion. It was a good story and a nice boost in confidence for knuckles.
