Atmosphere and characters. The game successfully immersed you into a mysterious and remote location. Gameplay-wise there are a few Splinter Cells that are easily better than the whole franchise, but I still love MGS1.

Unless you're playing a more complex genre such as RPG, strategy or simulation, 10 minutes is sufficient for a basic impression. A platformer that can be completed in under an hour can't afford to be uninteresting for 10 minutes.
