That's a pretty close minded way of seeing things, there's plenty interesting for the DR1 kids that can be turned into a manga. Like I said, Celes is the perfect protag for a gambling manga, Kiyotaka's struggles to surpass genius, Mondo's backstory is perfect for a traditional delinquent manga, Sayaka working her way up the Idol ranks and going more in depth as to what kind of things she had to do to reach where she was before DR1's events, a martial arts manga about Sakura pre-protein, and so on.

All Rantaro's would be about is another killing game where we get introduce to 15 other kids we know will die simply because Rantaro is there so it defeats the purpose of even going into it since you already know about it. The rest would just be about how Rantaro was planning to cheat in V3 and we know how that went too. There isn't much there to work with, as much as people clamor for it.

Well it took 4 hours but I finished.

I would say DR1 - Sayaka + Chihiro, DR2- Chiaki + Gundham.
Looks like I had MUCH better luck with my characters in DR2 than DR1 by comparison, at least I got some top 10 finishers this time.

Shortly after the post I made complaining about how intense the Hangman's Gambit in that Island 5 trial was, I finished the trial and was filled with /true despair/. I guess I'm still in the "denial" or "bargaining" stage of grief because that explanation didn't feel right to me at all. The way Trial 2 was set up with the idea of people being used as tools and Trial 3 repeated the theme with the suggestable brainless Scarecrow + infected Ibuki. Even Trial 4 had a similar concept because Gundham was guilty, not the Dark Deva who pushed the Goodnight Button - just a tool. It feels wrong, but I imagine these are just the kinds of delusions someone has when they have an empty /hope/ for a different story that never was. After the heartbreak of the final trial verdict, the rest was pretty straightforward. I have to say, I didn't expect Junko in quite that way, I thought that the countdown device was summoning her somehow.

I finished just in time for DR3, though, that's something at least.
