Have your guys in a line shooting at the other guys. Have your cavalry kill the enemy artillery. Have your artillery shoot at the enemy soldiers or general . Have your arty use canister shot at close range. Canister shot will annihilate entire units in a volley or two. Protect your general.

I'm not sure I want separate Daemons of Chaos factions, what I'd like most of all is an extensive system of summoning, mutations. and speccing armies to certain gods, along with several separate WoC factions instead of just one as we have now. Just having lots of cool daemon units sounds too boring for a bunch of warp monsters.

That's what I'm hoping for as well, it'd be a great place for a unique campaign mechanic to make Daemons actually fun to play rather than a cluster of 4 different horde armies.

Basically the game can be boiled down to: get good at microing your artillery. Don't just set your cannons to fire and forget, unless they're VERY high rank (gold chevrons) they have extremely poor tracking and will consistently miss. Learn to control them and fire on the ground where the enemy WILL be.

Use normal round shot against cavalry at great distances, especially if you can snipe their general. Explosive shot against infantry at distance and grape shot once they close to range. Embed your cannons within your infantry line and give them a clear line of fire for this purpose. You could also have a few on the flanks to shoot enfilade (down the line) but this isn't really necessary most of the time. You can send your cavalry after their artillery, but you can also take out their cannons with well placed shots. Focus on destroying the artillery PIECE, not the crew. So firing on the ground in front of the cannon is your best bet.

Other tips:
1. Cavalry is divided into light, medium and heavy (also dragoons). Light are scouts and can chase artillery, medium are anti-cavalry and fare okay rear/flank charging infantry. Heavy lancers melt infantry on contact but can't go running around the battlefield all the time and will not match well with medium cav.

2. Infantry square formation makes them basically invincible against cav.

Daemons aren't hordes, they're elite. Fluffwise, even a lone lesser daemon is more than a match for a hero. Greater Daemons you may as well just throw your hands up and await death.

Obviously it gets toned down for games but the problem is I don't think the units GW have given Daemons is enough to support 4 full armies, so I think they'll be a single race with a mechanic to give bonuses for mono-god armies.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just revamp the base Chaos faction? They could expand the list of LLs or generic lords and tech trees so you could end up with stacks based on different chaos gods.

Yeah, I've been into GW and independent gaming stores in the UK a fair bit and it was pretty rare to see a WHFB battle game from 7th Ed onward. Now I see Age of Sigmar games almost as often as I see WH40K games.

It's just us salty old fags mourning the loss of the WHFB universe, in terms of a tabletop experience Age of Sigmar is undeniably more appealing to people, which at the end of the day is all GW cares about - selling models and getting people into their franchises to play games and buy more rules and models.
