how did you go about practicing? also if it has gods either let me pick my god at start or find it guaranteed early on

I spent most of the morning writing a program that would take two coordinates and give you the slope, y-int, distance between them, etc. Then just studying and doing math/programming problems. Just trying to get the basics to the point that they are second nature and building from that.

It's been awhile since I last visited the general, what's up with the CDDA isn't a roguelike meme?

it is unlike rogue in several ways
-it's an open world sandbox survival thing rather than being a dungeon crawler
- not permadeath: the primary means of progress is just in what items and especially which books you have, and under cdda's default settings, new characters are generated in the world of the last dead character and can go find+loot the body, car, or home base of the dead guy to get right back to where they were pre-death

Last I checked, it had a tranny ghost, black NPC sprites had been added, tons of unique's genders had been swapped, an entire forest themed branch was removed because it was insensitive in ways not disclosed to the userbase.

I'm optimistic in that I hope to hear new devs came in and unfucked it all, rather than add even more politics but that's never going to happen.

youre not playing tome properly until you expand your hotkey bar large enough to have 4 rows on screen at once
1-= for offensive spells
shift-1 to shift-= for utility/defense
ctrl-1 to ctrl-= for instant-cast spells (mostly defensive runes but some spells and attacks as well)
alt-1 to alt-= for sustains and item actives

that way when shit hits the fan you can tell at a glance which things are "safe" to try

some things are pretty surprising and you might not realize at first that they are instant-cast, like healing infusions, disruption shield, one of the paradox teleport spells...
