Evolution Studio dead. Studio Liverpool dead. The studio who made Journey and Flow and Flower purchased their own independence. He also burned the bridge with the studio who made the Resistance series. And PS+ has been converted into an indie service, instead of giving aways higher quality games that entice people to keep subscribing annually.
So all signs point to Sony is going lightweight strategy, which indicates they see Playstation as a short term money maker that could go out of business in a few more generation.
They are doing the complete opposite of investing long term.

I think Sony is preparing themselves for another round of hardship. You know back when the PS3 got hacked, the Playstation division began to bleed money instead of earning money. It's a liability to keep all those 1st party studios well fed while your system is hacked and people buy less and less.
So they are are probably anticipating PS4 will be hacked eventually, and prepare themselves ahead of time. Personally I think it's stupid and short sighted of them.
Microsoft is actually executing the Xbox Live subscription correctly. Xbox fans who have invested years into Xbox Live and gotten higher tier games from that service will not be likely to ever abandon that platform. Meanwhile Playstation fans have gotten nothing but indie crap over the years, they won't have the same loyalty to PS+, because indie games are mostly seen as worthless.
