Do what you feel like. The RPG mode unlocks once you've graduated at least one student through the board game. It's a bit grindy, but I find it very fun personally.

DR3 anime was thoroughly boring zero-stakes fanservice trash (all the previous characters were practically untouchable and DR2 characters get revived for super colorful happy ending) that takes the overarching black and white good vs. evil conflict too seriously with the writer thinking it would actually be an interesting setting to explore further outside the context of killing games. Actually applies to all the non-main works as well for that matter.

V3 was overall a good game but had a trash pseudo-intellectual ending with its meta twist that retroactively ruins the rest of the series and blatantly ignores all previously established rules not to mention explains the characters' every single action as convenient brainwashing, as if it was actually clever and not batshit retarded asspull. Every time a game or other work of fiction tries to liken enjoying fictional drama or violence with actual drama and violence it comes off as nothing but hypocritical. That or in truth the devs actually hated what kind of cashcow the series had become and finally wanted to definitively end it which in itself is fine, but could've been done with an unrelated reboot or other better way as well. Dangan Ronpa was a series that was getting way too bloated after DR2 and needed to be ran to the ground, though in doing so V3 not only fucked up the rest of the series but also itself.

Or at least that's my two cents on the matter.
