Slowly figuring out how to model stuff myself. Altering, rigging and animating models by other people before that has really helped with getting comfortable with all the tools and stuff.

When there are enough dead (white) cells the predators (red) can get in and there is a huge gas explosion. Tis creates a natural cycle of: gas release -> gas eaters getting in, stones (grey) block predators -> enough dead bodies collect to move up the stones -> predators get in, eating all -> gas release.
Periodic environment changes as emergent behavior. Pretty cool.

Bones are for deformation. IE- organic models like characters.
For mechanical models, all you need are object constraints.

Mecha like Gundam are basically characters. For things like , you shouldn't be using bones.

Different user here. I think its fine to use bones for animating mechs and such (in fact I don't think there's any better way to do it).
Problems with mechs are "cyclic" bones, like in your webm or pic related.

You can work around them by using constraints but they don't export to game engines, you would have to replicate them in there.

If minmaxing is optimal but not intended to be, the game is poorly balanced.
So you have to take them into account, especially in multiplayer, or they'll break the meta wide open.

Mecha jam devs, what kind of game are you making/going to make?

I always wondered how safe it is for those mechas to walk around with all those missile pockets. What if you get hit there? Wouldn't that make all the missiles explode?
