I remember the old Gamebryo version that Fallout 3/NV used had a bloating issue with saves, where the game would become progressively slower the more you saved in the same slot.

This is why Survival is such a chore and why I eventually started using the in-game save thingers that horizon has you make. I was fucking swimming to the castle to avoid that cluster fuck and the game just froze up and crashed to desktop killing like 20 minutes of progress.

On one hand it is very easy for me to say "if you want to play hardcore, have some self control". But I know I don't have any. Sometimes I have some, and I save my game when a companion dies. But most of the time I don't.

Bethesda games are way too buggy. The classic are way too random. I don't know how D:OS 2 plays, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with the game saving on its own.

Maybe if the game had invisible backup saves made under certain circumstances, and a visible autosave when NPCs or Companions die. That way, if you are fucked up, you can revert to the invisible backup save when leaving the game (by moving it to a different folder or something), but in-game you would only have autosaves.

That way constantly reloading would be a pain in the fucking ass, having to exit the game, moving around files, and so on.

Saving game on survival with a cigarette break is the best.

Empty houses, feeling of absence, dereliction.
It's an atmosphere that FO3 did really well, the little empty houses scattered across the Capital Wasteland were great.
New Vegas did a bit of it in places like Nipton and Freeside, but quite so much.
Fallout 4 tried but I hated the overall game so much that I don't really care.

what are some mods that make Survival a bit more bareable? Honestly I just wanted the diseases/primary needs and the lack of fast travel.

I've already added a mod that reactivates the console so I can get myself unstuck in the buggy ass terrain and one that lets me choose to just save at beds instead of sleeping constantly like I have a health issue.

Anything that gives me the feeling of slaughtering whole villages of profilgates and exterminating raiders is a-okay with me. Whether it's in a desert, swamp, or forest it really doesn't matter.

Yeah it is, but honestly I think an ammo counter would be nice. That would require it to be three smaller nixie tubes though, and I don't think the engine supports something like an ammo counter yet without a fleshed out script extender.
