Roundscape Adorevia boggles my fucking mind.
I hit it up because apparently it's complete able now and, sure, it's got pretty good fucking art (and a lot of it) and has PRODUCTION VALUES in the form of not being strictly out of the box RPGmaker - it's got class systems and shit. It's involved, they didn't shrimp on the details.
But. But!
All the basics are completely god awful. They use paralax maps and implemented various light scriptings to make things look pretty, but beyond that the maps themselves are large and barren, uninteresting. There's a lot of NPCs around that you can't actually talk to, they have no event files, but you don't know until you try. The writing is awful, though the IDEAS are good, yet on the flipside a lot of stuff seems to be a contrivance. You meet an orc. She's impressed, asks you to help her out. Then begs you to fuck her unrelatedly. What. There are plenty of typos and writing, in and out of a h-scene, varies in quality a great deal - I'm pretty sure it was all written in RPGmaker without spellchecking.
It's this bizarre antithesis of RPGmaker stuff; it's ambitious, actually goes and fulfills those ambitions, but it's a beautiful table with bamboo legs. How do you mess this up so bad? And I am ignoring the various bugs here, too, cuz that at least will likely be fixed.
Unfortunately it is still probably beyond the bar of most h-games, jap and otherwise, when it gets good and cuz of production values but jesus christ that's disheartening
the more productive of us could have made GOTY of all years just handling the "game" and writing portion with all that art.
