As far as I can tell it looks like a sound strategy to keep a province at low public order and constantly spawning low level armies in order to kill them, take slaves, and train your lords. Maybe even keep a lord with slaver bonus near that province for a constant supply of slaves.

What am I not considering here?

Yes and no. The descriptions of the realms are very vague. Some of them are 'without boundaries' (like the Realm of Shadow), while others are unfathomably large. Like I said, the lore's all sorts of retarded right now so it's tough to say.

Gameplay wise I'm thinking it would be similar to DoWII with a greater emphasis on individual unit abilities rather than just standard troops.

One of the biggest problems I have with Age of Sigmar is that it has no real setting. If the Mortal Realms were just regions of the world blasted to hell in eight different ways I wouldn't be so against it.

If there's going to be a bunch of big guys in armor smashing shit, let's go full hog for 40k.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that it ties up one of your armies, but I farmed rebellions to build up my dread waifus and get those nice dragons, and I had no issues with my economy

my issue is that upkeep goes up so much you cant run multiple armies early

Yeah it's actually a great way to defend when you have no armies nearby. When you have walls everywhere the AI will siege for a couple of turns and let your agent crush their stack.

I don't think it's so much the manchildren. I think it has to do with lore and setting. GW is still in the infancy of trying to create an identifiable setting with AoS that isn't total generic, vague, high fantasy bullshit. If they would stop sucking Sigmarine dick so often then maybe they would entice more of their old player base to give it a try.

And while I like AoS and think that it's got a bad reputation for an otherwise decent skirmish type Table-Top game, it is nowhere near as fun, engaging, or strategic as WHFB was.

Dark Elves live off of raiding enemy settlements, not travelling their own lands.

When you have one or two 20/20 armies and a ton of land it's going to be a pain to have to go back so far from the enemy lands just to crush rebellions.
