How effective is medaillon farming for a new prime release?

Making some assumptions I get a 37% chance to get at least one correct relic (one of the four parts with 4/29 relics as of right now) per relic pack.
With a a 8/8 medaillon run netting 6200 standing on average that means 3 full runs for a 36% chance to get a "correct" relic. With 3 packs purchased this increases to 75%.
That's 60k standing or 10 full runs. For a 75% chance to get at least relic and no guarantee to even get the correct part.
Sounds like a horrible deal to me.
Simply selling syndicate stuff for plat seems better imo.

Medallion farming got me a Hydroid Prime set worth 350 on release.

This is gonna be awfully specific but here goes. 95% of the time im playing its with a close friend who mains Nidus. I started the game with playing mostly Trinity but eventually I felt like nobody was taking advantage of the unlimited energy, the toolkit was boring, and I had zero survivability past 30 or so unless I went abating link. I'm looking for alternatives that synergize well with self sufficient frames like Nidus and Ineros. Something that is also tanky but also provides some kind of support buff or CC. Would Ice/Ward Chroma be a good team player or a Rhino? I'd like any kind of frame ideas. Im just tired of being so squishy and being a 1 trick frame.
