it would suck to have a dude come in and steamroll everyone who has been playing for years. it kinda makes it seem like the game in question was never really competitive.
at least the pools for sfv are too huge and the skill ceiling too low for people to be consistent.

People really need to remember that SonicFox is a tier whore so if you think he was taking SFV seriously when he entered tournies you're only fooling yourself.
It's also insulting to imply NRS players aren't good at fighting games just because the FGC has a dumb outdated opinion on their games.
Tierlist is
Top Tier: Anyone That can cause Block stun through projectiles or abilities independent from the character themselves and can't be reflected. (i.e Rocket Racoon traps, Firebrand Tornado, Jedah)
Mid Tier: Characters with large normals or fast movements(Dante, Gamora, Ultron, Etc)
Low Mid: Niche characters that fit in some of these categories(Strider, Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange etc)
Low Tier: Everyone else that doesn't fit into any of these categories (Chris, Frank, pretty much anyone with stubby normals and reflectable projectiles or complete lack of Oki)

I think I prefer 2D to 3D ones, I hear Skullgirls is good with a great introduction to mechanics and stuff

Marvel looks fun and the DLC characters are entertaining, but I don't really have time to play MAHVEL right now, and I don't want to get cucked out of my money like I did with SFV spending $90 for base game + S1 season pass

So you don't want sales and pricecuts to happen either? To anything ever? You paid and got to experience the first two years of the game. While I think that in cases like this, where the product is trash, earlier adopters should get some form of reward, it just can't be expected from capcom and that's just how business works.

skullgirls has an online weekly tournaments for 5 days of the week
and few, focused major offline tournaments
the small amount of majors means all the poverty players can go to every one of them instead of having to choose between many

Not him, but for me I had the most fucked over timeline, I bought $60 base game + $30 season pass and $20 battle costumes, only to drop it after 3 months because the game is underwhelming. Just started to pick up SFV again after S2.5 updates. It is kind of my fault for dropping the game so early, but then SFV was in rough place last year with all S1 DLC characters except Urien being underwhelming.
Honestly the last 4 games Champ won felt like Fox was just bored and stopped bother to block, like he simply didn't care or respect champ anymore.
