Solar eagle isn't the most powerful awake expander and can only take on relatively average indys but the advantage is that it has flying map move 4 and recuperation so you have much more freedom to pick and choose even going so far as to expanding into far away provinces using your starting scout for info

Having warm bodies for enemies to hack at instead of your field troops is always useful. Especially when they have separate morale checks.
