Why doesn't ST do this? He's had lots of different styles. That crystal ring in SA1, Soap, Lightspeed, gem shoes, his gear in SA2, the black cuffs in riders, his sunglasses, the Black Knight gauntlet, the Secret Ring... Err, ring, etc

Mods have spoiled me on the concept of changing how Sonic looks.
It'd be cool if they added a closet system to change his accessories. It'd be a nice little extra and throwback to previous games. I'd totally give Sonic his Riders gear and rarely change because those hi-tops are dope.

Eggman isn't known for making good long-term decisions.
It'd be easier to figure out what you don't need to replace.
Get rid of the random level and partner gimmick and let you choose your own partner at any time, including the option to go solo. Rebuild the level design from scratch to be not garbage. Make 8-12 zones instead of 5. Make the bosses not garbage. Really the only things worth keeping are the graphics and music, and even the second one would be made better if it was remastered for CD-quality audio.
In fact, just delay the game by a year and put it on Saturn instead of 32X.

You play a lot of Sonics
Make the rubber band gimmick an optional multiplayer mode. Condense 5 acts down to two or three and redesign each stage to not be such a mess. You get to choose what character you play as in the hub world, no claw machine bullshit. Maybe keep the random stage select just for the novelty because with less acts it wouldn't get so dull.
