warband has memory leaks like a sinking ship but that shouldnt happen in only an hour

try messing with settings in the configure menu, specifically force single threading/load textures on demand (this one should always be turned on anyway desu)

If you look closer however, the hammer heads are more disk or rondel-like.
The pointy bit is the killer, with the hammer heads to deal with plate. Not to say you wouldn't get murdered by the hammer parts though.

i don't see why not, that period of history is ideal for M&B
really everything up to the high medieval period is peak for M&B, it starts declining after that in terms of how mechanics should work
