One thing people appreciate about Lilly's route was that it felt like an actual romance. There's a few dates, a confession, awkward virgin sex. Other routes aren't so much like this. Not that it's bad or good either way, but it's something I enjoyed.
I liked the route's usage of other characters (Yuuko, Akira, Hanako) without it being overbearing (see: Shizune's route).
An user in the last thread said that a lot of "nothing" happens after Hokkaido. I feel like this may have done purposefully--perhaps every once in a while you feel that something's wrong (Lilly getting mad at kenji being the big one here) but nothing too bad until Akira drops that load of bricks on you. Replaying her route is interesting in a way since you know what's coming.
I never did experience it myself firsthand but getting the neutral end must be soul-crushing.
Overall, I think it's a good route at its core, but whether or not the reader likes Lilly or not determines whether if it's a great route or just a good route. This is the route's greatest flaw.
Also, the second sex scene was unnecessary. Hot, but unnecessary. I'm very disappointed they didn't use that unused CG from that scene.

I never got this one either. There's a bit less drama compared to other routes but I still found Lilly and her route interesting.

It kind of drives itself apart from the other routes though. All the other routes' stories are that of Hisao and the girl trying to even approach having a regular relationship (sans Shizune I guess) while Lily's route kind of puts you there from the beginning, so it's a weird change in pace from other routes that I could see people having difficulty adjusting to.

It was my first VN and I didn't even know what a VN was. Was just thinking about fapping to it.

To me, irrelevant. It's like 2% of the content. It would be more negative due to the path not be as romantically 'normal', meaning, two 18+ people who date for weeks and never fuck? That's just weird. If I wanted handholding fantasy I'd just think about my life.

Don't think so...I think the though part is to get someone to try VN in the first place. After that, if he likes it, he might try more, nudity or not. But I think most people wouldn't like 'reading' games, or would not even try them.

The nudity aspect probably help attracting people, some of whom might stay for the VN aspect and not just the nude stuff.

It's a romantic dating VN... Not having a heart condition doesn't affect me putting myself in Hisao's place in 'chatting to girls and eventually dating them'. If the game was about Hisao's getting treatment for his heart for 50 hours I probably would have trouble putting myself into the part, and probably wouldn't like it either.

The game is about dating. When I put myself into Hisao, I think of myself as say "I'm dating Lilly", not as "I have arrythmia".

But playing a game about dating guys... Why would I want to do that? I don't want to date guys. I don't want to flirt with guys. I don't want to kiss guys or have sex with guys. So what's in this game for me? None of these things are things that interest me in any way. If I play an action game and the hero is a girl and she beats shit up and eventually kiss some guy that's fine, I'm in the game for the ass kicking, not for that part. But in a game like KS, the dating&flirting and all is almost the whole game/point. If it doesn't happen with someone I could like... what's the point?

I could think of a few reasons.

Or to put it in a much simpler way :
If there was a girl in KS that (for this or that reason) I don't love in ANY way at all, I probably wouldn't like playing her path. Becuase the game is about flirting with her and I don't want to flirt with her because I don't love her character.
So it's not even about the gender, it's about 'things I like, characters I love'.

Well, if we're dating a man, odds are that I won't love him in any way at all, because I don't love men. So I don't want to play a whole game about flirting with him and dating him.
I wouldn't play that pidgeon-dating thing people play either.

People play Harem/dating-type VN for the waifus. Half the discussion about the game is about which waifu is the best. When do people talk about Hisao, aside from talking about how much of a retard he is? No one cares about the MC in these game, it's all about the characters he interacts with. In the reverse, a girl playing in a male-harem, there's just the MC that no one cares about, and the harem that (straight guys) won't care about because they're men.

So, why did KS take so long to release? It started in '07 and came out in '12, yeah? I know that the word count is nothing to sneeze at, and you have to account for programming everything into a single tangible product but still.

Routes were re-written a number of times, and artists changed. Aside from that, I'm not sure of the specifics of what went on.
