Do you feel that it's because he's such an unashamed reference to Kamen Rider and that's what makes him good? Because I kind of feel that way. Definitely a character with a intentionally over-the-top design, and that's what makes him work better than the others.

Not yet. Indivisible is still mid development. And there's no present plans for any other games (other than some art assets being diverted for skullgirls mobile)
A lot of LabZero's future plans are pretty tied to Indivisible's success (or lack thereof)

The devs seem pretty positive. There's more content coming in the month, so that's a sign that it's not dead yet.
I actually know fuckall about Kamen Rider. I just like him because he's badass. The over the topness is part of that, of course.
Lab Zero is good at making over the top, "quirky" characters. I like that they haven't fallen into the trap of focusing too much on said quirks and forgetting to make cool cohesive characters.

I think it's pretty strongly implied that Lamia/The Mother was the first skullgirl due to her age and half her face being skeletal. We do know that the Skullheart is Theonite artifact, but also that Theons (Parasites) pre-date it. I'm thinking the Skulheart was probably made around Lamia's fall. That could have been what spurred Neferu into overthrowing her, and/or the reason Eliza never actually took power, just had a coup.
