To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to play Dark Magicians. The combos are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of advanced techs most of the plays will go over a typical duelist’s head. There’s also Magician's Rod’s effect, which is deftly woven into its deck's playstyle- its combo draws heavily from Yugi Muto literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these techs, to realise that they’re not just nostalgic- they do something deep to the META. As a consequence people who dislike Dark Magicians truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the effect of Apprentice Illusion Magician, which itself is a cryptic effect monster to combo with. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dark Magicians' genius tech unfolds itself on their ygopro windows. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Dark Magician tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Don't be discouraged, there's been numerous tech cards released over the years that keep the deck decently playable. You get an extra normal summon through Seraphinite with Brilliant Fusion, which also makes Choco a la Mode easy to make, and because of Gofu, we have things like Crystron Halifiber to go into Nat Beast without worrying about bricking on GUB, and Skulldeat to unbrick hands by putting Garnet and such back into the deck and extend plays by summoning a Madolche from hand

Also, why Side Droll if it's great against SPYRAL? DD Crow can also fuck within a SPYRAL, so I might Side 2 of them. I can run 3 GOSR, 2 Droll, and 1 Maxx C. Maybe even Side 2-3 Lancea just to prepare against Evenly Matched.
