Is there a reason to give a character traits such as being a genius, wealthy, or gay when the story doesn't give them the opportunity to flex their brain, money, or male preference?
Angel Hall
Pull an "inspired by" and make a game about a guy going on a great journey in order to uncurse his wife who's been turned into a dog.
That was how the story went, right? Wife turned into a dog?
Jonathan Torres
Does your game feature handholding?
Nolan Rivera
Can you add this to the list as well? It's a map ripper that can recreate any game map in RPG Maker MV
Why not, if you want your heroes to be seen as you'd like to.
Chase Morales
Put another butt in the next OP. I liked the last 2.
Xavier Perry
No, fuck casuals

yes, fully uncensored, close up CG's and with mushy sound effects.

Yes. The more of the character's traits and attributes the player learns, the better they will know - and thus hopefully care about - them.
Julian Peterson
I think you're confusing sex appeal with empathy.

Anyone have any ideas how to turn normal attack into a choice of Rock-Paper-Scissors style conflict? A couple of games I've played are giving me ideas. Maybe there's an MV script or some tutorial out there?
Alternatively is there a way to just remove "Attack" from the battle menu and just have normal attacks be "Normal Skills" instead?
Ian Robinson
Don't have mv, but it was possible to remove the attack command as far back as 2k3 so I'm sure there's a way to handle it in the newer versions as well.
Anthony White
In real life, it is what it is. In fiction, it's applied variation for design's sake. But also a source of conflict. Gotta have conflict. Like, a Priest on a Pirate Ship is an interesting contrast of characters because they are moral opposites.
Wealth and Smarts can be character strengths - so you create a dilemma where their strengths can't serve them. They can't buy fire. Take a leap of faith. ect... Or you put them in a position that should be their forte...and they fail. Someone outbids Moneybags. Or the scientist overthinks a problem, and it's a moment of humility when the monkey does the obvious solution.
I have trouble justifying gay characters because I'm quick to associate it with romance. It takes two, right? But taking a step back and looking at attraction based motivations from straight perspective, love loyalty and devotion isn't always mutual. A gay character might not have any stakes in the story. They could be selflessly doing "whatever" because it's in their loved one's best interest. A common thing in ancient Japanese literature - one guy has these social obligations and responsibilities to uphold. The other guy does everything to support him and usually ends up killing himself because ~reasons. Usually along the lines of "I'm holding you back. If I ran away you'd just come looking for me. Killing myself was the only way." or they took the fall for a crime and were executed for it. But that's a little too archaic for modern tastes, where status and honor is more important than love and happiness. But a less extreme backstory could justify a character being gay and in exile. Or simply be disowned by their family for being gay in the first place. It doesn't have to be central to the plot, just an explanation of how a character arrived to a point.
Easton Jackson
I know how you feel and normally I don't care if a character is gay or not, but it really annoys me if a character is introduced as such. I'm talking about the scenarios where a character has not even 5 minutes of screentime and then goes "btw, I'm gay". It feels like checking a list instead of writing a good character who just likes men, or even just a particular man. For some reason I see this a lot in modern media and I wonder if actual gay people even care.
Jeremiah Richardson
second tab in the database lets you change a class's in-battle actions, such as attack, block, magic, etc.

I will give you an example of how you can use a "gay" character, some people might be offended however and take it as you mocking them, but this happened in actual Planescape pen and paper rpg I was playing with my mates. >girl DM >places NPC from computer RPG into P&P RPG for this session >its Annah the Tiefling, she sticks around for for a while as a plot device and DMs way of inserting herself >Annah flirts with our fighter during one session because he saved her life in earlier fight >he ignores it and is somewhat annoyed at one point >eventually Annah asks what the hell is wrong, and why does he hate her >one of guys goes "he likes the dick!" in other words user, you are sorta fucked because people will associate gay person with romance straight away as you noted, my example where he is "revealed" as gay (everyone but girl DM knew that player is in fact gay) is a good excuse of letting the player know, but it may be seen as a mockery. if you really want a gentle way of doing that without any sexual/romantic attachment you may have a scene where your characters sit in a pub for some R&R and talking about regular things, topic coming down on maidens they recently met on adventures and small talk on which one they like the most, when gay character doesnt get involved, they ask him who would he fancy and he may answer with a simple "I dont swing that way" or something along the lines.
Jose Moore
the "surprise, he's gay" punchline is 80's and 90's sitcom cliche thou
still better than >hi my name is Eric and I smoke cocks!
Robert Reyes
Gay people are stupid and annoying. Why would you put such an idiotic gimmick in your game? It will only lower the quality of it, and less people will want to play it

the only transactions on Veeky Forums are people buying cosplay or Transformers, on /cgl/ and /toy/ respectively. And I guess some artists plug their patreons for smut drawings. Should I switch from XP to something else? I haven't used XP yet, so I'm wondering whether I should waste my time with it or not?
Joshua Brooks
Depends on the type of game you want to make. XP is best for mapping, but VX Ace and MV have better script support currently and a better database out of the box.
Oliver Morales
Should I try making a game in it first as I'm a beginner and then switch if it seems like a good idea later?
Samuel Gutierrez
If you're more concerned with learning with this project, then go for it.
David Miller
You could plan a very little project, and do it in both engines. Take like 2 weeks to do this.
Julian Perry
I don't own both engines. Sorry I should have said whether it was worth buying another version or will XP be ok?
Julian Cruz
XP is fine as it is, you should look into VX Ace and MV when you want to do more advanced things that require heavier scripting
Gabriel Gonzalez
Thanks for the help user :^)
Jackson Jenkins
Get the very legal demos to test it out mate.
Check OP's for MV and maybe XP is somwhere too. Last version of MV is 1.5.

Well I've always wanted to see the RMXP art style in greater detail. And I finally found the artist behind it.
I was absolutely giddy at first because he's actually really prolific. And it's finally satisfied my curiosity about the style. Like how the battlers should look in side-view. Centaurs. Robots. Black ethnic features. How the nipples should look. What the artist's rough sketch looks like.
I mean, that's kinda how I got started as an artist. I was trying to expand RPG Maker's battler collection. I wish I had this style guide 10 years ago. It's like I finally know!
The problem is, I always associated that style as belonging to Rpg maker. But it's not. It's very much the artist's own style. And all the fantasy body ink scrawled on the characters might as well be his signature.
Xavier Reed
And yeah. Once I found his old site. It lead me to all kind of blogs, twitter, galleries ect...
I guess I was a little disappointed he wasn't a big rpg enthusiast like I am.
Cooper Barnes
I see, but that doesn't sound too bad. I thought that you contacted him and he was really rude or something.
Wyatt Perry
Well, he shares enough of his personal interests online. The loli and shota porn he favorites on pixiv. Obsession with guns and world war II. According to his resume, he was the mechanical designer for Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, designing things like Yoko's gun apparently. That's cool. I think he might be part Russian, or at the very least lived there for a while. Lots of Hammer & Sickles plastered everywhere.
I want to believe he's just a history buff like my uncle. But I got this sinking feeling he'd be a denizen of /pol/ and /k/ sporting a pedobear badge. You know, the worst aspects of Veeky Forums. So my imagination is running wilding picturing shaking this guy's hand, who was the source of so much inspiration for me, and then chewing off my arm to escape any potential conversation about world politics and hope I bleed out before he gushes over some anime moe fantasy in the most autistic fashion possible.

Is there a plugin for skipping the stupid MV splash screen when you start the game? It takes me twice as long to test my game than it should every time I start it. I'm pretty sure I've seen Youtubers skipping it, but I'm not googling the right combination of words to find it.
