What did the Austiran Empire (and Austro Hungarian Empire.. if they are different at all) actually do before WW1? Any major battles? Any kickass events?
And I have seen some kinda meme picking on Germans for trying to destroy Europe and all.. Are the Austrians better? Or worse in their own vices?
Are Austrians and Germans different in anyother way rather than dialect etc? Any cultural differences?
And last question. Austrian Coffee House or German Beer Hall?
The Austrian Empire was the dominant great power in central and easter Europe before the ascent of Prussia.
Cameron Ross
It was corrupted shithole without any idea about the future. Instead they forced old fashioned reactionism what caused our destruction.

>Are Austrians and Germans different in anyother way rather than dialect etc? Any cultural differences? for most of in the timeframe when the habsburg/austrian realm existed, "german" was a very broad label encompassing all kinds of folks such as "austrians", bavarians, prussians etc
Makes you wonder why Germany thought starting a war against the world with them as main allies was a good idea...
Austin Cook
Thats what Germans do.
Lucas Parker
>Hungarian
Hungary was everything wrong with Austria-Hungary.
Logan King
Participated in all major European wars. Was at the center of European politics for a long time. Didn't help Poland after Poland saved their assess.
Samuel Garcia
It's shit and will be shit on a global scale probably forever. I like the countryside tho, so it's a chill country. Something like a mansion in tuscany when you're retired.

Being bad at war, mostly Not much different that in WW1

>the karansebes meme
there's literally no sources and the overall premise of 10,000 people killing each other without noticing they're on the same side prior to the invention of automatic weapons is absurd
Jaxson James
It was you who killed it. The only part of our history where we were part of something relevant and you had to fuck it up by chimping out in 1848. t. Croat
Christian Butler
Did the croats play any major role in the empire? And how was rule under the empire for the croats? Good? Bad? Terrible? Jolly?
Carter Thomas
>be in a personal union with hungary >allowed to have autonomous political system, language, etc >turk zerg rush all of the balkans >500 your cunt is a literal DMZ >le happy austrian merchants pick up everything after boric acid finally kicks in >you are now one of many minorities >things get promised, things dont come true still better than yugoslavia
Ayden Kelly
It was fine. We had a small degree of autonomy (Banska Hrvatska had a parliament in which Croatian was spoken), and Vienna significantly invested in Slavonia during Maria Therese and Josef II. Hungarian and Austrian industrialists and traders were responsible for the gradual modernization of Croatian lands. Our lands were split, though (Banska Hrvatska, Vojna Krajina, Dalmacija), and some nationalists wanted them united in personal union with Austria (stranka prava) or as a federal state (neodvisna narodna stranka) or as a federal state incorporating all south Slavs in the monarchy (narodna liberalna stranka). The parties changed through time, as did our degree of autonomy. It was during Franz Josef and the abomination that was Austria-Hungary that things got bad.
Jaxon Smith
Hungarians were the ones that tried to culturally assimilate people under their Kingdom which created ethnic tensions that led to the stagnation of politics, not to mention they chimped out creating division to begin with
Eternal bozgor reaped what it sow by weaking the power structure of Austria and getting completely butchered in trianon, best day of my life

Austriafag here. Austria, as in, the Habsburg Empire was one of the most influental Empires druing the late medieval period until the early 1800. Then we started to become an inept empire stuck with retards and an Emperor who was more concerned with his laconic wit than fixing problems.
One famous guy was Admiral Tegetthoff. He beat the Italian navy during the Austro prussian war. He only had an outdated, venetioan Fleet and faced an all ironclad italian navy. Somehow he won by ramming the italians. Everyone was shocked that the battle was won and it cemented italy's reputation as a disaster nation during wartime. Funnily enough, Tegetthoff realized right after the battle, that his silly tactic meant jack shit and only ever worked against italians.
The weirdest part of the battle was though, after the war was lost two days prior when prussia beat the shit out of Austrias army at Königgrätz.
Matthew Stewart
I wish Austria wasn't a bureaucratic hell even for military, which they should have learned doesn't work during Napoleon wars so they could beat Prussia
You guys had ONE job
Juan Turner
>bureaucratic hell Nigga, you don't even know. Austria still is fucking retarded at war. We have like 2 working tanks and still rely on conscripts for basic maintenance shit.
Jace Cook
Yeah but you are irrelevant small state with small economy in Europe now. Back then Austria was the most relevant German state with a huge empire under its wings until they lost to Prussia. Read about how much Austrian military shoot themselves in the foot with function and bureaucracy of Hofkriegsrat during Italian campaign of Napoleon. Charles could have beat Napoleon in Italian campaign if it wasn't such a bureaucratic hell.
Elijah Collins
> Austrian military shoot themselves in the foot I'm well aware of that. The problem is: The Habsburger basically invented the fucking bureaucracy. Look up Charles V and what he implemented in Spain and what his brother Ferdinand did in the crownlands. They didn't know better. Ti's like saying to a retarded kid: Nigga don't eat glue.
Jordan Edwards
Yes but you had people like Prince of Eugene, hell even Wallenstein after Charles V and Ferdinand were long dead. It was this odd worship of bureaucracy by Habsburgs that kept the "tradition" alive. Even in ww1 the bureaucracy hell is what failed the invasion of Serbia
It's fucking weird.

>Austrians treat Hungarians fairly and don't try to erase their culture or identity >Hungarians chimp out and try to assimilate Slovenes and Croatians
Tyler Powell
Slovenes weren't even a significant minority. And after the 1868 Croatian-Hungarian settlement, Croatians had Sabor, and they could also send delegates to Austro-Hungarian parliament. they kinda had exceptional rights inside the empire. I'm not saying that there was no attempt of assimilation, but it was more against serbs and romanians, and it wasn't as bad as they say it was.
John Hughes
>Prince Eugene
The guy was a madman and based as hell. Yet no one at court listened to him. He yelled constantly at the emperor: Leave your fucking daughter a full treasury and a good army. Instead Charles III. decided phony treaties with europe would ensure Maria Theresia's reign.
