How was it that Chihaya's arc in the 765 anime has more emotional weight than any of the "drama" in CG?

Is it because of the Gainax/Trigger/KyoAni/Berserk people working on it? Seriously, I am fucking shocked how 765 never got an S2 and instead we got Shiterella Girls with characters I don't give a fuck about.

Chihaya's arc has a poor build-up but the resolution was great.
Uzuki's arc has a great build-up but the resolution doesn't have that much of a pay-off.

The Afuu's snail arc has both a nice build-up and a heartwarming resolution.
