Alright anons, I've heard that either Ian Flynn or Aaron Webber said that a some of the editorial mandates put on Archie by Sega have been lifted for the IDW run. So what kind of things do you hope happen with IDW Sonic under less restrictions?

No, not really. We were talking originally about a writer's headcanon. The most politics has been in the series is all the political jokes in Boom.

Well, this is true, but usually when people talk about politics in stuff like this, they mean topical issues. Sonic has eco-friendliness as a theme, but for most people, it doesn't become political until a Sonic game explicitly comments on something like global warming.

I think that they need more fucking restrictions, a lack of restrictions is what caused the Archie comics to spiral into madness in the first place. Ian has already said the mandates are going to be the same as they were with Archie.

The comics went into madness mostly because of Ken Penders. It wasn't until Ian came on board that the comic began resembling something like the games more & the only thing that wasn't really in line with the games was the romance.

I think SEGA actually trusts Ian, if they're willing to be a little loose with the mandates now.

As long as we don't get romance drama I don't mind.

Basically says "mandates" are taken way too seriously by the fans and they are more like guidelines more than anything. Stuff like "Sonic can never settle down with Amy" and similar stuff like "Sonic can't weep and ball out crying" will still be something they can't do because they go against his established SEGA character. They should have at least the same amount of creative freedom or more with IDW.

The only great thing about the Rivals games were the alternate costumes.

Archie Metal did have a personality though. He's kind of rebellious and a little snarky and sassy sometimes. He didn't really talk but he emoted a lot. I think Flynn and the artists hit a good balance between keeping the coolness of him being a near-silent murderdrone and making him sort of goofy and expressive too.
