The Forgotten British Empire

Let's discuss the empire of the viking King Cnut and what might've happened if it had survived for longer. It is also a thread for Scandinavians and Anglos to come together.

meh the nordics have contributed nothing to civilization, even during the times of the vikings. english culture made vikings like canute git gud

You are LITERALLY the first person to make that pun.

If the Normans had never invaded, Britain would have remained in the Scandinavian "sphere". The boost to wealth and (especially) population could have allowed the Norse to make a viable go of colonising the Americas, but the French and Iberians would almost certainly grab 99% of the New World, due to more advanced economies and greater populations, and of being physically sightly closer.

They created Russia. This makes their contribution to civilisation roughly -9001

>If the Normans had never invaded
Those fags ruined english with their fancy ass french retardism.
The Rurikids were Finns, though.
Or atleast uralics.

We were so pathetic we made everyone else seem like overlords, thus, we contributed a lot to civilization.

Nordics 1
Everyone else 0

>Those fags ruined english with their fancy ass french retardism.

The Normans had superior castle technology, but in all other regards they were backwards savages who dragged England back at least 200 years.

I think he's talking about Kievan Rus

I was talking about Rurik, who may have been a Finn, but who lead a Nordic army and built a Nordic state.

It's actually far from clear. He was born in Holland, but his genes suggest a Finnish or Baltic origin, and of course the Varangians were a multi-ethnic tribe incorporating the likes of Danes, Swedes, Angles, and Gotlanders.

>Angles
The Eternal Anglo strikes again!

The Nordics have actually contributed a disproportionate amount to the world starting from the 17th century. Artists, philosophers, and inventors crop up there with alarming frequency. In fact every single Nordic country except Iceland has contributed multiple Nobel Prize winners to the world. In fact the three groups which have produced the most Nobel Prize winners are the Nordics, the Germanics, and the Anglos (in Ascending order), who are all just part of a larger, extended ethnic family.

We don't tend to think of the Angles and Saxons as "vikings", but of course they came to Britain in ships and at one time "Saxon" was a synonym for "pirate", so they had what we would describe as a "Viking" culture centuries before the great flowering of Norse vikingism.

>A prize invented by Nordics has been desproportionally awarded to Nordics.
Amazing.

Actually it's disproportionately awarded to Jews.

Only in comparison to the rest of the world. The United States is the true outlier with 353 Prizes to date, which even if you add the next 5 nations together you can't equal that amount.

desu, in that way Europe could have neetly divided in a latin part, germano-celtic part, and slavo-uralic part(excluding Romania)

If they were that biased they'd do better than having only one Nordic country in the top 10, and not even near the top of it.

The funny thing is that, linguistically, Celts were closer to Latins than to any other group.

>germano-celtic
T.retard

A "Nordic" state that was largely inhabited by Slavs, whose dominant state religion and culture was that of the Slavs, hence all rulers from Igor to Vladimir swearing by Perun and Veles, not Odin and Thor.

Finno-Baltic, actually. His family is related to the Gediminids.

They certainly were, but even they knew the limits of nepotism.

Only according to a theory that hasn't made any serious progress since the day of it's conception.Their fringe association with the creation of the first Russian state can't be used as proof.
