Well, Ex Deo comes to mind. Sabaton is a bit of a guilty pleasure but they're pretty cool.
Tengger Calvary (Mongolian Folk Metal)
Waylander (Celtic Folk Metal)
Black Kirin (Chinese Folk Metal)
Guahaihoque (Columbian Folk Metal)
Rudra (Hindi Folk Metal)
Svarga (Russian Folk Metal)
Impureza (Spainish Folk Metal)
Al Namrood (Saudi Arabian Folk Metal)
Odius (Egyptian Folk Metal)
Alestorm (Pirate Folk Metal)
etc.
Just folk metal bands in general sing about history in general.

Been playing Eiyuu Senki lately, that's semi-related.
The Drones have written loads of songs about Australian history
If youve got good taste youll like the drones, but sabatons another shitty euro power metal band so..
Describe it. What was it about?
It was this femdom thing, with this chick dressed up as GB dominating all the countrys that have been under the British empire. I came
Windir, a lot of their songs are about norwegian history. They're written in an obscure norwegian dialect called sognamål, however. I'd still reccomend them, especially if you're into melodic/folk black metal
>windir
>burzum
>nokturnal mortum
>aborym
What is it called when you enthusiastically enjoy a few bands but think the rest of the genre is garbage? Is it just being picky?
Iron maiden?
Definitely Maiden. Empire of the Clouds is amazing.
Armahda
it's about brazilian history however
It is being a huge (huge, huge) fagget
Manowar, but more viking myth than viking history.
Nah, just having selective taste. I'm the same with most genre's of music.
>not listening exclusively to Jacek Kaczmarski and Vladimir Vysocky
Serenity is an Austrian band that focuses on history. They make symphonic metal and its pretty great.
Their newest album is centered around Leonardo da Vinci.
Not sure what they're about exactly, but these two are a good introduction to their music, I think.

This is my favorite, however. Its about Leonardo and his obsession with the Mona Lisa

Sabaton has some pretty nice cover art for their albums.
Arrayan Path made a bunch of songs about Ancient Greece

Ancient Rites (some songs are in Dutch, older albums are about Germanic culture later they went full Veeky Forums)
Holy Martyr (despite the name they're about ancient Greeks)
Haggard (these guys took "symphonic metal" too literally and formed a fucking orchestra)
Falkenbach (muh Vikings, one man band)
?
This song could be used for a better event desu, that pope deserved to die.
The thing that puzzles me is that for an album about last stands, there wasn't a single sad song. It was the perfect opportunity to include a song about the Fall of Constantinople as well
thats it. You are my hero
so true
>no they might be Giants
Hail of bullets and Bolt Thower
WWII related

they have made so many historical songs they should count
Christopher Lee did that metal opera recording, "Charlemagne".
Eastern Front
Might have been.
The fall of the Romans would deserve it's own Album.
Could also include the fourth crusade, sacking of Rome, and other similar stuff.
Sabaton is the true Veeky Forumstorians band
listening to them right now
>Ex Deo
apart from Ex Deo, what other bands about Rome are there?
they might have
Great taste
RIP Lemmy
Amon Amarth for vikings
Theres civil war which is made up of people who left sabaton

Does Corvus Corax count?
