Okay so I'm new to Stellaris but what the fuck is with Naval combat in this game? I was attacking a fleet that was about the same level of firepower that mine had and my fleet just got obliterated while the enemy fleet barely took any damage. Our weapons were about equal and my ships had better defenses (i.e. the enemy ships had no armor or shields from what I could see) so I have no idea what happened

IIRC Stellaris' "fleet power" calculator is rubbish and fleet target proritisation is also rubbish

Stellaris combat always results in one guy getting stackwiped and the other guy getting lightly scratched because of Lanchester's Square Law

80% of my "battles" are just trying to stop the fucking AI from going back and forth between systems, magically knowing where my fleet on the other side of the galaxy is going to, and when finally caught not to emergency fuck away and start again

Stellaris battle system is just a more complex game of rock paper scissors.

You need to outfit your navy differently everytime you meed a new enemy empire by outfitting against the natural weaknesses of their tech.

it's a rock paper scissor type game. Maybe you didn't have the right weapons to penetrate his defences or you had the wrong defences and let his weapons get thru.

okay children of the nile is directx9. unreal is glide and I'm assuming it's the gog version with the nglide wrapper already installed you're running.

modern windows does not come with dx9 pre-installed. run the june2010 offline redist which contains every version of dx9.

Hmm, so hyperlane tech start, with wormholes being natural things you learn to harness later?

I remember Wiz saying that he didn't want to remove the FTL starts. He might just rebalance Wormholes to be more based around the hyperlane system.

Id love to see something like that in Distant Worlds 2 - normal hyperdrive with increasing speeds and smaller spin up times AND naturally occuring wormholes that provide instant travel between two far off systems.

Tbh the best way to do it would be to have a slow ass warp start with the ability to link systems by hyperlanes like road systems for fast travel, and have wormholes be natural phenomena that link distant parts of the galaxy. I doubt they have the ability to implement that though.
