Pretty sure it has literally nothing to do with those hyper specific balance complaints about patches. Mobas simply aren't accessible enough, that's all there is to it.

Dota's problem probably is more about not gaining new players, I doubt that player loss has significantly accelerated other than the time when Reborn came out. In the past player loss and influx of new players probably just balanced themselves out, with a slight net plus in new players.

This game will die and it will keep dying until Valve fixes the real issue with it. Icefrog managed to keep MILLIONS of players in this fucking game for years prior to dota2, so why the fuck would they constantly quit during dota2? Gee, maybe it's because WARCRAFT 3'S DOTA 1 HAD LANGUAGE-RESTRICTED ROOMS, PROPER REGION LOCKING, AND BANLISTS? Damn who would've thought!? Subhumans would get regionlocked into each other due to the very nature of the game's peer to peer hosting, rather than queueing into an officially hosted server for said region! Perus would stay out of the US rooms in Garena because they were too retarded to know any better, and because of the ping differences so they had the best ping when playing games within their rooms in the south american regions of Garena, for example. You could ban people to make sure you didn't have to deal with them, so you could get rid of the third world subhumans joining your games too!

How to fix it? Fix South America's servers so perus tend to stay in their servers with each other. South american Dota2 servers are very fucky and weird compared to League of Legends' south american servers, which don't have anywhere as many issues. League of Legends keeps thriving despite the absolutely fucktarded decisions Riot has been making for one very simple reason: Riot knows how to keep subhumans in their place. Riot has their playerbase restricted to only having an account per region. You need an account registered to the NA region to play in the NA region, you need one for Latin America North, and another for Latin America South; all the subhumans are forced to be locked with each other in there, and they don't want to create a new account for NA because then they wouldn't be able to conveniently play with their friends! League of Legends accounts have your champions and levels (and your runes, but these were removed) which helped in forcing people out, too

Listen, you're wrong. Dota is an excellent game, and there is no topping it. Graphically, this game is a masterpiece, with several weather effects and map packs to diversify the experience. Aesthetically, the game is excellently layed out before you in a beautiful manner. The gameplay is just fantastic. Every single hero has a unique playstyle, with multiple playstyles sometimes being available on one hero, completely changing how the hero is played and thus serving the purpose of a brand new hero. The tactics are immensely complicated and incredibly satisfying when you finally delve deep enough in to understand them at a base level, allowing for deep knowledge of subjects that most games would never even dare touch. The balancing is a godsend, changing up the metagame every patch in a non-boring fashion, where everyone gets buffs, no nerfs, yet amazingly, many values are still similar to when it came out, the game FEELS like Dota at its core, even after 13 years of balancing. Dota 2 truly is a fantastic masterpiece of a game, which will live on for generations to come, and you best bet I'll tell my grandkids to go play Dota 2 (Which will still be up on Steam by the time I am an old man, due to its complete excellence and ability to drag players back in). The variety of each round of Dota 2 is simply astounding. No two matches are the same, and with 10 unique heroes out of a hero pool recently increased to 115 incredibly unique and distinctive heroes, the game feels different every single round. Dota 2 is the best video game every created on this earth, and will continue to be so for at least a few more centuries.

League of Legends region-locked accounts also means that when the subhumans try to escape the other subhumans to play in NA, for example; they get skullfucked by the NA players because the LAN and LAS skill level is fucking dogshit compared to NA's. NA high diamond players can create smurfs in LAN server and reach fucking challenger in a couple of weeks, that's just how much the skill level varies between the regions, which means that if a subhuman peru tries to queue in NA, then he'll be stuck in bronze hell forever instead of getting carried up to diamond, because HE CAN'T BRING HIS DIAMOND RANK EARNED IN PERU WITH HIM, WHEN HE WANTS TO PLAY IN THE NA REGION EITHER. Unlike Dota 2, where the peruvians queue their shitty peruvian servers and then queue US servers and the game makes them think that 4.5k Peru = 4.5k NA, when IT'S CLEARLY NOT THAT FUCKING WAY. A lack of region-lock is the exact reason why perus and other subhumans and retards can reach a massively high mmr where you ask "how the actual FUCK do I get these monkeys in my team in 3k+/4k+ games?!" Well that's how, silly! Considering the nature of Dota 2's ranked MMR system, it takes a fuckload of games for them to drop, and in-between that, you have to mix how many times they play in their real SA/peru servers, where they will get games at a much lower skill-level, and maybe squeeze a couple of wins, and also have to add these matches where they get lucky and win automatically while being deadweight, thus delaying the sinking of their MMR, but still destroying the quality of matches for both parties, the winning and losing ones, because everyone's been in these games where some subhuman peruvian clearly is deadweight and is still getting a +25 MMR boost, because your team is just impossible to carry, while on the opposite side, you have these games where you know this subhuman monkey doesn't deserve to win, but you can't just outright throw the game to force him to lose it either

A LACK OF REGION LOCK IS THE VERY REASON BEHIND ALL THE ISSUES THIS GAME HAS EVER HAD SINCE IT WAS CREATED MORE THAN 7 YEARS AGO

A lack of region lock has ties to EVERY, SINGLE, ISSUE, this game has ever had. Matchmaking quality decreases because even unranked games have their own "hidden mmr rating" to queue people with each other, and when people keep playing in different regions, you get the peruvian subhumans in your games in US servers, and the matchmaking believes that "hidden unranked 4k mmr" from peru, is the same that the one from US, so you get really shitty matches, which decreases the quality of the matches for all players involved; the subhumans have decreased match quality when they get absolutely shitstomped in many of their games, or get absolutely shitstomped by one guy that is highly out of their league, but somehow their same mmr (a NA player in a subhuman-filled environment), so they get frustrated, while at the same time, the NA players get frustrated by having to play with, AND AGAINST, people that are highly under their league in comparison, despite being the same mmr. This small but noticeable issue will keep piling up over the matches people play, and stress them chronically, that's why people devolve their desire to play some games of Dota into some sort of purgatory-like punishment, pain, and anguish

The more games people play with people outside of their region, the more chronically stressed people get, driving them to hate the game, despite still loving it; to quit the game despite really wanting to play it (me, I've played since 2007, couldn't afford to keep going in the past year, way too many perus in the US servers, got fed up with longass queues just to have to play with a bunch of perus)
