I started a new Warhammer campaign after a long break, but I forgot how abysmal the loading times are. Everything works smoothly on ultra, just loading into and out of battles takes fucking ages. Has there been any kind of fix to it that I don't know of?

There's literally no reason to war with the other wood elves. Their main settlements cost Amber and they can't turn down confederation with you after the oak is rank 3.
Build up a half stack and go sacking and razing undefended settlements of a faction you've decided to hate until you get murdered. Only seed enough to get your main settlement leveled, the greenskins in the vault are nice for this.
When you die or are rich with a rank 3 settlement, build up a full stack and conquer the southern realms. Use the incredible amount of bonus income those six settlements provide to build a second stack to defend them from beastmemes.

Imagine if you had a unit of ranged arrow AP so it can fire over infantry line. Imagine if that unit had really good AP dmg but also GW variant for melee AP if it comes to that.
