Now that we know Project Elysium is going to release a fresh server, let’s discuss what could potentially happen.
1. Light’s Hope releases a fresh before or shortly after Project Elysium. This will kill Project Elysium. They will absolutely not be able to recover from this.
2. Light’s Hope does nothing. Project Elysium builds a player base from people who simply want a fresh start, those currently leveling on Server Elysium who would prefer fresh to progressed, those at level 60 who feel the sunk cost does not outweigh the potential of starting fresh and those who plan to remain on Light’s Hope but want to roll a fresh alt. I would not be surprised if this was at least 4-5k to start off. This will take a chunk of Light’s Hope active population. They will probably drop down to 5-6k themselves. As more and more people roll on Fresh Elysium the numbers will slowly tilt in their direction until the scale goes in their favor and at that point, there’s no stopping them. They will take the majority and become the leader in terms of population.
The whole argument from Light’s Hope is that a fresh server will kill Server Elysium. I do not disagree. It will overtime pull population away from Server Elysium. But, if they allow Project Elysium to open a fresh without their own response, their entire project is at stake – not just their server. Is it not better for them to release their own fresh server in response? It would solidify them as THE Vanilla project and effectively destroy their only real competitor. It will also force any upstarts to compete with this fresh server, which would certainly be a strong deterrent to them.

t2 is extremely good for pvp, if you're demo spec you basically can't lose a 1v1 except against shamans and really good druids it's also easy to get since it's dogshit for pve, so if you're in a decent guild you can get it for free while other locks get maybe 1 bis piece of gear you run with a voidwalker so you get 2 shields, and with dots and your healthpool it takes years to kill you while they die
or you can go full destro and fire gear for insane bursts, but you're squishy and if fights don't go your way you're useless, especially if it's not 1v1

I would just like to make one thing clear for the autists who think vanilla will EVER become a reality through blizzard.
Would legacy WoW contain the netcode improvements made since Vanilla (being able to queue a spell so you don't need stopcast macros)? Would legacy WoW contain the modern anti-cheat mechanisms that prevent you from going under the world or clipping through geometry? Would it contain bugfixes for things like Ignite and Deep Wounds? Would it contain the geometry fixes so spells like Blink wouldn't be stopped by a small pebble or a gentle breeze? Would it give you access to the 1.0 addon AP that let you call what are now considered "restricted commands" (automatically move character, automatically cast spell, etc.)?
No one would say these changes were for the worse, and in fact, some of these changes are basically mandatory for the game to play (there are people in the military with a 750ms ping that can ONLY play WoW because of the spell queuing netcode change). If you don't include these improvements out of "purity" you're asking for a game where people can write effective bots using the in game scripting, where people with bad ping can't play and where hackers can easily fly under the world. If you do include these changes, where does it stop? Do you add other bugfixes? What about quality of life fixes (being able to use an ability to dismount, mounts being spells)? Pet battles never hurt anyone, would they be in the game? The problem is there's no way to make a legacy server without upsetting the purists or without breaking things now fundamental to the game. This isn't even touching on the "which patch do you choose" dilemma.
