Here's something interesting. Former SEGA Europe Community Manager, ArchangelUK, posted posted a long post to Sonic Retro talking about various ideas he pitched for the 20th anniversary of Sonic while working at SEGA.
Along with that he posted all of the ideas for references he had submitted to Sonic Team for them to consider putting into Generations, such as things relating to the comics/shows/Freedom Fighters, other SEGA properties, Mario, etc.

That's exactly the point though. Sonic is not interested in romance, and that can be traced back to his personality and what he likes. However, that's only true if you limit yourself to traditional, stationary romance. If Amy was actually fast, useful, not a complete nuisance, not Amy and, most important of all, able to work with him and impress him, then she might have a chance with him.
Also, Amy's love for Sonic isn't real love. She's just obsessed. Their relationship never really goes beyond Sonic being annoyed by her, and they don't spend enough meaningful time together. There can't be love without that.

I'm not gonna spend a whole thread arguing over this shit, but no. It's been made perfectly clear that Sonic doesn't care about romance in any way, shape, or form. Sonic cares for Amy, but he cares for her platonically. Saying that "Amy would have a chance if she was fast & it's not real love," is just headcanon. And yeah, I know Sonic's canon is so fucked you need a headcanon to make sense of a lot of things, but this is pretty fucking easy to get.
Amy likes Sonic, has followed him & believed in him no matter what & while Sonic has shown that he cares for her beyond just "damsel in distress," at the end of the day, he has no care for anything to do with romance. It's as simple as that & I say this as a SonAmyfag.
