For sorties just dont be late to the extraction point and you'll be fine, play a frame that can buff if you can and just stay alive
For eidolons just get trinity/harrow/rhino/chroma/volt with lanka/opticor/arca plasmor built for rad and you'll be fine, it's easy as hell to get eidolon kills as long as the damage dealers (aka harrow and chroma) are competent

No. There are options that don't lose that much on-paper DPS in comparison to heavy cal that then perform way better in game because you just sweep head high and nail everything in the head instead of missing over them.

Soma has shit base accuracy, and mods affecting accuracy negatively will fuck up low accuracy weapons the most. This is on the wiki under the section on accuracy. ALSO as others have said, there are just better stats to work on than raw damage with the soma.
