I don't understand what you mean by applying force to the player.

Here's the explosion object, the pointeffector2d works but the animation i put in isn't playing

by "applying force to the player" I mean I want the way the ball reacts to the shot to happen to the player but I'm assuing that the player's rigidbody is preventing this or something

That is the fact of making something real. You have to compromise. Not just in making games either. It's the same with relationships, jobs, ambitions, and life in general. You have to accept something flawed, or just not have it at all. It's a humbling experience being "put in check" by reality. But I do know that overcoming that, learning to accept reality at it is (and not how you wish it was), is a part of maturing and the only way to get anything at all in life. You're not a genius. You won't revolutionize games. Your dream project will never happen, for a dozen reasons you can't even see yet. But there is still a chance to make something good that people like. Take it or don't.

My advice is not to use rigidbody, but to implement your own, much smaller version of it using colliders.
Also, don't compare layers by code, layers are meant to be handled in the physics settings to include/exclude. You're using it as if they are tags.

Progress!

I think I'm all finished with this spell now. There is a 1 second pause while the spell goes off where you can't move during that time, but considering that the game isn't really based on fights, and instead more on puzzles, I think it should be fine. Also got rid of the stamina system I made yesterday and decided to go with a simple numerical base for the spells. You pick up x items which lets you use y spell x many times.

I have finished my demo please play it
the levels from my previous demo have been redone by maybe like 33%, made easier mostly
and there's 4 new levels
and controller support
the audio is bad though you probably will want to mute at least the sound effects

also a level editor with a lot of objects to mess around with, you could make the entire game for me with it if you wanted to

I have a lot more levels finished but I didn't want to include them all in the demo, 9 is already a lot

I guarantee you it didn't flop for the animation in that cutscene.

Imagine if you're fighting an enemy who you know can ohko you with a kick so you damage his leg so he can't use that attack at full power/at all.

In an action game it'd be stupid but in a turn based game it could be a pretty compelling mechanic

Just a simple aoe damage spell. Knocks back harder enemies, kills weaker ones, breaks boxes, activates switches, etc.

I disagree, action games could get away with it because its skill based, so you shoot at dick or arms to see fun reactions.

but in a turn based games players always go for the easy exploits, even if its not fun. They will go for the same thing.

in FTL most players just shoot at shields and weapons because its safer and easier. Not all players, but most.
