9/10 he is either too close, the RL's spread too much to deal proper damage to one component or most of the projectiles miss the target entirely because of the spread.
Rocket launchers are a bad meme. For them to be useful on a light in numbers of 1-3, you have to be right up their asshole, but minimum arming range means they won't deal damage. So you shoot from 90m away, but the spread ensures all of their components get hit for 3-4 damage each.

It's actually really satisfying how much burst you can get from a single 160+ salvo. Blackjack with 4x20, just push button to rekt enemy target, polish off anything still hanging on in tatters with LPL/SNPPC fire. I couldn't imagine making it work so well on anything as clunky as a Stalker.
It's like ATMs. People were bitching about "ass-to-mouth" missiles, but it turns out there's legit uses for the things after all. RLs trade long term DPS for one incredible burst, and that means you really, really want to have a few decent energy weapons for backup.

What should I do with my event crow while I'm using the prime pods for the exp bonus? I was thinking 5mpl and a ton of sinks, but I'm curious if there's anything different I should try.

I don't know which Trick or Treat mech to get. I'm currently IS, and don't know when that will change, but I'm assuming the Stormcrow is better.
Crow is better, because damage potential even in short games is greater. This, combined with only needing to buy a few omnipods and weapons for new builds, means you will at most spend the same amount you would have spent on an LFE engine for the hunchback, but get multiple different viable builds in exchange.
Same thing happened on the Annihilator. Now instead of having a pair of side by side energy mounts just under the head there are big flat open googly eyes there and the weapon cubes are haphadardly mounted on the top and bottom of the torso vertically with no underlying structural support.
Imagine Battlefield of Planetside(2) where you can only use one kind of vehicle. Sure it's polished (no) and may be even beutiful, but you loose so many possibilities you start bragging about little details instead of actually playing the game.
So why would you play MWO instead of MW:LL.

With ATMs, you generally want both a TAG and an active probe. Both Light and normal Active probe counter ECM mechs up to 220m, and both TAG lasers increase missile accuracy by quite a bit.
