Maps have squares that spawn enemies and squares that don't, like you experienced it doesn't matter if a fleet is already there or not.
I think squares that spawn enemies are safe from ambushes, so you only get air raids, but I'm not sure.

Looking at mostly +6 stuff, few chain reloaders and toolkits, weapons are the good purples on the list at +6 and 3 or 4 good gold planes.
Just want to avoid wasting time and oil if I will get my shit pushed in by the time I reach D3 itself.
I've beat D3 with slightly worse fleet.
I'd still try it, but if you want to be sure you can clear it you'll probably want some +8 at least.

You could probably get through with Unicorn/Lusty/Sara + Ayanami/Kagero/Takao fleet 1, Rodney/Nelson/Enterprise + Cleveland/Indy/Portland fleet 2. Expensive fuelwise though

You'll have to split your BBs after C though, there's a 1 BB requirement for both fleets on every D map
I couldn't even beat C1 when event started and managed to beat D3 first time only today. Don't care about fuel, just needed that trophy.

the big benefit of retrofit is to help turn uninteresting botes to ones you may care about so I don't mind them. maybe in the future when legendary botes start dropping there will be SSR retrofits that raise the power level.

Both of them do different things. Hood when her skill activates demolishes anything on her LoS while Enterprise launches plane and will do double damage while also being nearly invulnerable for 8 seconds when her skill activates.
