Or does he, seeing that he gently nudges Gonta to do something and smiles mysteriously upon seeing Gonta cheer up? Kokichi asked Shuichi to join him likely as he needed Shuichi to convict Gonta, but as he was asking someone to do a horrible thing for a reason he can't explain (That is, Kokichi wasn't lying about the Killing Game Busters thing and Gonta did sacrifice himself) he tested if Shuichi was up to it by telling him to ditch Kaito if he wants to save everyone. Since Shuichi refuses, he withholds all the 'hidden' bits and only explains what the cast needs to know otherwise what he's doing will get him killed and Kaito nearly blew it anyhow Gonta's memory loss was essential as he's a terrible liar, and why Kokichi cried so much over him was exactly due to this as his friend would die thinking he's a murderer when he saved everyone with his own life and only he knows the horrible truth Tl;dr: IT'S A RUSE. These things would also explain why Kokichi goes silent when Monokuma asks him about the promised exciting outcome and why Gonta was so forgiving of Kokichi, since he was obviously lying about making the game more exciting (And DESU when he talked about 'evil' I think he meant the true mastermind), and the second is simply explained by Gonta having forgotten what happened in VR but he didn't forget what was discussed before, and it's important to remember that while Kokichi lied about the cast hating bugs in chapter 2 he was sincere about wanting to prevent more deaths. 3/4

I was expecting Nekomaru to sacrifice himself desu.
She could've easily set up the starvation motive after every trial. She wanted to prove to the future foundation that their hope restoration program wouldn't work, you can't beat despair etc. But she cheated to make that happen, she forced the killings while in DR1 the first 3 killings were 100% legit (although she did have ohsami as a back-up if maizono hadn't done anything)
It's probably cause she was an easy target, she got the gullible disease.

I think it's fair to headcanon that part away. It'd make a lot more sense if there's something that draws them to Junko in the first place. Isn't that what happened to the kids in another episode? Mikan being drawn to despair cause she was bullied would make for a way better story. Same for all the others, you could make up a reason why they were drawn to it. Teruteru would've easily been seduced by Junko.
