Not that guy, but no, Puchi Rooms are fucking great. And judging by how much I see people dicking around with Puchi Rooms and Items on twitter, I hardly think it's a feature that only a minority enjoy.
And if we're talking closer interactions with the idol, then none of the games really offer that. Not even the console games. Ten years later since the very first game, the commu system hasn't really developed much. It's still the same system of canned dialogue. Invest enough time in the game, and you'll see the same stock responses being repeated.
