You have to link your Nintendo account in order to transfer your save to the US version, but no one knows how Nintendo is going to handle people who do switch countries after worldwide launch. We may get banned, we may not. You should be good if you keep your country as Australia though, I'm planning to wait a few weeks before I switch.

Super Mario Maker's poor sales resulting in the Animal Crossing App being delayed and restructured might have killed that original intention though.

I see a lot of people have "favorite" villagers. Like to force certain people in and out of your town.
I personally have never cared much about the villagers at all. It's all about building up my house and my furniture catalog.
It seems like the villagers are shallow and their personality type is reused among other characters. I feel like I'm missing something.

Villager personalities are indeed shared between 8 total different times, 4 for each sex.
The reason people have favorites can come down to a few things:
1. Straight up nostalgia, if they had it in an old town in an older game they'll want to have them again
2. Visual design. You've got so many different animals and people will take a liking to certain designs - for example, I love Teddy for his eyebrows. It can even be how their exterior looks with the town theme.
3. They might want that villager's house items - for example, if Ankha puts her throne in re-tail. This is the most superficial reason to adopt.

I read through the terms of service after I linked my Nintendo account. I had to switch my account profile to Australia to keep playing the game after I like it, but from what the terms say they allow switching if you moved or traveled to that other country. Sure, they could go in and cross check your location and profile region, but based on the fact they already allow exceptions to be made that are difficult to prove, it sounds more like a liability / legal thing on their end and not a strict end user rule.
If they wanted to enforce this rule they could have just banned people like me who have a profile set to Australia but are obviously playing from Canada.

It's little things that happen with a particular villager that can make them a "favorite" and set them apart from copies of that villager in one's mind. Something like them moving into the exact perfect spot, or the wrong spot but coming to approve of them anyway. It's also things like coincidences of programming giving them a semblance of intelligence and personality, like finding them standing on the spot where one of their friends used to live, or putting a piece of furniture in their house that's just somehow perfect for them.

It took me 3 days to get half of the furniture in the game and a third of the villagers, at which point the craft times became so abhorrent I quit the game.
It's fun enough, but it's just a shallow mobage game. I honestly don't think regular updates are going to get me to go back to it. But I also think it'll grow the fanbase from people who have never heard of the game

Rocks and ponds are the bane of my existence. The cafe had to go one square too far to the left, my house is too far right, the center of my town had to be totally reworked. I'd give anything for a rock removal option from the town hall.

My house is north of my plaza, but offset by 1 square to the right. In front of that house is a rock that prevents me from having symmetrical bush gardens. I have two permanent residents with exactly 4 free spaces between them, meaning no one can move in and any 2-wide PWP that goes in there would be one space to the right of being aligned with the lighthouse just south of those houses.
There's several more rocks in my big cool tree area that fuck everything else up too. The only reason I ever wanted a hack tool was to move them somewhere else and get on with my life. Maybe I'd relocate my coffee shop to not on the edge of a cliff either.

Been playing Pocket Camp on and off since launch and finally hit level 36 so every villager is unlocked. Past that levels only give you 1000 bells and 10 tickets. Which kind of makes me question if I should keep up the grind or wait for more villagers to be added.
