People have been suggesting they cut it down to 0.7 intervals for years, and gaijin has said that "it didn't work in internal testing" as an excuse for not doing it on the live servers, and that was back when the game was still in "beta" and they could have gotten away with actually trying it on the live servers at least for a little while, to get the communities opinion

Not much. Honestly, they may even be worse at the moment since .50 cals can obliterate any target in a single burst. Plus, with jets, a single hit from .50 cal tends to kill your enemy anyway, especially now. You also get more ammo with the M3.

Don't forget that a lot of the K:D ratio numbers are likely down to the USSR exporting those aircraft to countries that haven't even figured out indoor plumbing yet.... bad maintenance and badly trained pilots will wreck any K:D numbers.
