The 2nd War for Italian Independence rages on in the mountains of the Western Alps as the French continue to prod the Italian defenses. Several major offensives have been undertaken to penetrate the Savoy, but all have been repulsed with thousands of casualties on both sides. While the French rule the seas and have successfully seized Sardinia, they've lost Grenoble and have been unable to acquire their stated goal of Savoy. A stalemate seems clear, and if the French fail to take Savoy by the end of the year white peace will be the likely conclusion.

Meanwhile in the North, Germany has failed to capitalize on France's occupation in the Italian meatgrinder. Rather than take the undefended Alsace-Lorraine, Bismarck in his mysterious wisdom has opted to strike at Austria-Hungary with materiel support from the British, although so far the war is not in his favor. A successful long-term foreign policy for both Italy and Germany may depend on the alignment of their actions, and there is little doubt that King Victor Emmanuel II will reach out to Bismarck in the future.

So in every variation of Hearts of Iron you build something it costs time and industrial capacity. IC requires resources. Techs, policies, gearing etc reduce time. They do not increase IC cost.

Don't really see the point, I've assimilated all natives into Ibo and the immigrants don't represent much due to the enormous population. My capital, Awka is the most populous province in Africa and the third in the whole world right now with a little over 6m pops, only behind Karachi (8.6m) and Katmandu (6.4m). Warri also has 5.1m pops and might be the 4th most populous province in the world but I haven't checked again yet.

Losses are always very high when Barbarossa begins, yes. In vanilla the war is pretty much a guaranteed win for the player no matter what you do, but on higher difficulties and with mods it's more about the severity and rapidity of the damage you can inflict, because they usually recover very quickly unless you neuter them almost immediately.

Depends on the quality of your support technology--particularly on-board radar--the composition of your fleets, and what planes you can scramble to support a naval engagement. If you can get interceptors above the fight to neuter Britain's CAGs and maybe put some CAS/Tac Bombers/Nav Bombers on the engagement as well to help the battleships out, probably. But if you're talking a straight BB/CV fight, no, they'll fuck you. Battleships are no match for carriers, unless they're extremely modern and the enemy's fleet comp is atrocious. Even then you're likely to suffer high losses trying to force an engagement unless you've got air superiority.

Tunisia was French sphere so I was unsure of whether they'd join the war and I jacked up my military spending to max. You have to spend money to make money. Italian literacy starts abysmal. Northern Italy is on par with the rest of Europe, but Sicily might as well be nigger-tier.

You can give it a try then. Just make sure your planes are close at hand to fly there quickly, because even with modern AA your boats will take heavy damage very quickly unless they can intervene.

If you want to neuter the British, keep engaging them until you sink their carriers. With them gone your navy might feasibly even be able to beat the British navy long-term, or at least it might give you some time to produce carriers of your own. Although realistically I'd have said you should've already begun research in that direction if you wanted to have top-of-the-line carriers ready by '46 or so, but whether or not you need them really depends on what your goals for the campaign are.
