There are two different primary ways. One is as an alternative physical mitigation character that focuses on Predict, Wind Curtain and Divine Gust. This variant doesn't take many skill points, and doesn't even necessarily need Lightweight, unless you're spamming Predict.

The other way is to get accuracy debuffs and evasion buffs, and use Lure.

3rd and 4th stratums are definitely a low point for dodge fencers. It gets a lot better afterwards when your agi/luc stats really kick in. Either way optic thrust is fencer's best skill for mob fights.

It actually uses the skills (which means things like Hell Slash or Appease Spirits will trigger for each hit) and puts a 0.7x damage multiplier on them.
So if your Arm Breaker is at 10 it will deal 157% damage.
Infliction rates don't get changed and are still the same as if you used the bind skills on their own.

I really like how Appease Spirits triggers on every follow-up, but Overexertion only procs once. Too bad Double Punch does not.

I'm in the 4th stratum and my Elemancer is still pretty mediocre, especially since I'm running a 1kat bunny with Helm Splitter which ignores resistances. I have hope that Focus Chant will eventually crank up my offence to the point that it's decent, but so far it looks like EO5's meta is heavily physical based for once.

Get that Clever Strike. Especially if you have a 1kat bunny Armor Piercing shit.

Clever Strike with a high Matk gun will do like 1k damage a turn for virtually free in the 4th stratum. Its VERY strong. Also, pump their AOEs and max out cutting costs. They will hit reasonably hard while also being reasonably cost efficient.

Warlocks are invaluable for their field buffs and spell damage, even if their raw single target damage isn't the best there is. Their ability to basically stop magic damage from hurting the party with a shit isn't bad either.

Sounds like you went strait for quick chant and have fire/ice/volt at level 1 or 2. Warlocks are late bloomers and EO5 is pretty generous with TP recovery. When spells get to level 5 they start to grow and.. yeah. Your frontline has an ATK buff which is another thing. Get Smokeblight when possible. Then get the Racial skill: Talent.

Also if you are using a gun, fucking stop that shit right now. Auto attacks are neat and stuff but staves do help with MTK, or Magic Attack.

Early on, kill the owlbears FoE and upgrade that staff.

With that much bunkerage you might as well go Shield Bearer since Cannon Dragoon should use Turrets (if any summons).

If you wanna use a Shield Dragoon, drop all those fucking Bunker skills and Line Guard in favor of Counter Guard and Mana Guard.

I'm in the 4th stratum now and my Dragoon has never hit over 100 damage with Gunmount. I kept it at 2 though because I'm not using it for damage but for not burning through TP too quickly (Line Guard + Gunmount is 30% cheaper than Line Guard twice).

That said, my Warlock did way more damage than yours in the first stratum. Comparable to the bunny, really, although she did run out of TP very fast. I kept the spells at level 3.

Now that I've upgraded to 4kat my bunny vastly outdamages the Warlock, though. She only needs to spend one turn to set up High Ground, then Armor Pierce procs twice for like 8 turns of defense debuff on the enemy, and then it's Layered Bloom for 400-1000+ damage every turn. Even for random encounters Layered Bloom is amazing, and she doesn't even run out of TP fast because I kept it at level 1 (since upgrading Reblossom also improves Layered Bloom's damage without increasing TP cost). On the other hand, my Omnimancer doesn't die every other encounter, so it's a fair tradeoff.

I'm not sure how Peerless Demon affects Reblossom, though. If Layered Bloom procs twice for 4 hits, is that 8 stacks of Peerless Demon, or 2x4 stacks?

Fucking thank you. Respec'ed and took up the INT racials, got myself a staff tho no the owlbear one and upgraded it. Now my lock is hitting in the 130 damage range. Sure its not on the levels of the frontline but god damn there might be hope.

Don't invest in quick chant that early in the game. Put the points in the elemental spells until all three reach level 5, and then work on quick chant. My warlock has the same damage output as my Masurao, the only downside is that she eats too much TP; fortunately she requires little setup and wipes mobs in one turn like nothing with aoe spells.

Clever Strike is an Elemancer skill and thus only available if you take that specialisation after you beat the second boss.
It is a single target skill that uses your weapon - so with a staff it is a melee skill but with a gun it is a ranged bash attack (and always INT-based).
It starts of somewhat weak but at 10 it gets a massive damage boost. At that point it deals about as much damage as a Focus Chant 10 -> Fireball 10 for only 10 TP. And since it uses your weapon it can get elemental infused with Shaman prayers or oils to also get fire, ice or volt element.

Not the most damage a Warlock can deal but it is a cheap mainstay with some variability to it.

Quick Chant lv5 + Focus Chant lv1 gives you a flat 65% damage increase for 10 extra TP and 6 skill points. It's TP-intensive early on but after the first stratum you can handle it.

Upgrading all thee spells to level 5 costs you 12 skill points, adds 5TP and gives you only a 35% damage increase. Not only does this make you less effective in boss battles, it makes your average random encounter also far more TP-intensive because you won't have any low-TP skills anymore. But I also don't really like using the TP recovery union skill or go to the menu for foods, so that's just my opinion, I guess.

In any case if you're gonna be upgrading all your spells you won't have the SP to go for Spread Chant/Altar anytime soon (plus probably also Amplifier).
